Or So I Thought

I shoot up, sitting on my bed. I stare at the open bedroom door, frozen. What do I do... Honestly, do I stay here or investigate downstairs? Well, it couldn't be too bad. I mean, we're isolated from civilization. Probably another wild rabbit got into the house. Luckily, the rabbits are pretty harmless around here. Slowly I get out of my bed, exiting the bedroom and heading down the stairs.

Nothing wrong... Heading to the other rooms, nothing wrong. Living room? Just fine. Bathroom? Normal as ever. Kitchen? Same as I left it... At least I thought... One almost invisible detail I seemed to forget... Looking over at the table, I see that the note was gone. Before going upstairs, I remember just leaving it there, nothing else. Maybe the animal teared it up? It rained only a day ago, and since it's pretty humid out here, there's mud surrounding the house. Animal tracks would be shown here, but I haven't seen any lately... Possibly a flying a animal, but all the windows are closed and locked shut. So is the front door.

The front door... If all the windows are closed and locked, only way to get in was... Through the front door. I rush to the house's entrance, seeing it closed. Trying to cover up a scene, I see... Turning the knob, I open it to see... Nothing. No tracks, no sign of a robbing. Nothing... Except the cool forest breeze.

Again, I lock the door, thinking of what to do next. Wait... Why haven't I looked for whatever caused the noise down here? Stupid me... Better go look then. We don't have a lot of things that break. Mostly all our furniture is wood. Other than that, we have some glass decorations. Glass breaks easily, right? Might as well head to the kitchen again, seeing as it holds the most glass items out of all the other rooms in our house.

I step into the kitchen another time, same as always. Note was still gone though, that's a shame... I look into the floor, seeing small amounts of glass scattered on the glossy tile. Another broken drinking glass... I get the sweep from the lower cabinet, brushing the bits onto the tray and slided the pieces into the trash. Another drinking glass to replace... Going to keep that in mind. I get back up, sighing and decide to head back, until something caught my eye. Another note on the table... I know for sure it wasn't there before. It seems like a delusion, and I slowly head up to it. I pick it up to see it's crumpled and moist. No delusion at all, it's real paper, I can tell. It's all brown, and it seems like it would rip any second. What bothered me the most though was the jagged writing written all over it.

'HELP ME'

What could it mean... Notch knows, but one thing is for sure. It seems I'm not the only one in the house. Whoever it was, this little joke wasn't funny. I bring the note to the trash, crumpling it up and tossing it inside. Some people just don't know how annoying they are.

I trudge upstairs, almost exhausted by the past events. Again in the bedroom, I head to the bed on my right, hopping into it. As I stretched, I notice something on the side table beside my bed. A piece of paper... Scribbled on the page was...

'HELP ME'
