Steve Lasting
As soon as Ashley collapsed I leaped to my feet, ignoring the sharp pain in my neck. I walk to her side and crouch beside her, running the back of my hand gently down her cheek. Whatever happened years ago is catching up to her, bringing her down, breaking her to pieces. Shannon walks out from the kitchen with two cloths and freezes to the spot.
"No. I should have stopped her. I shouldn't have let her go through with it. It's all my fault." Shannon sobs as she drops the cloths and backs away but bumps into Dylans chest.
He puts his hands on her arms before she could get away. What happened next surprised us all. Shannon scowled darkly slowly. "You rich idiots are more stupid than I thought." She grumbles and Dylan cries out in pain and stumbles away as Shannon reveals a small spike and rams it into his left thigh.
"What the fuck was that for?" Dylan snapped as he yanked the spike out.
"Rule 1 don't touch me when my sister is lying dead on the floor. Rule 2 don't ask questions cause you won't want the answer. Rule 3 always check us over thoroughly. We have weapons hidden everywhere." Shannon hissed as she spun on Dylan.
"What do you mean by she's dead?" I ask quickly.
"Check for her pulse and see if she's breathing." Shannon says as she turns to me with her arms crossed.
I checked her neck and wrist for a pulse yet I couldn't find it. When I tried to listen, feel or look to see if she was breathing I found that she wasn't. However her skin was still warm and her usual colour.
"She's dead." I gasp as I stare down at her still body.
"Well she's a dead sleeper. The doctors don't know how she does it but when she sleeps she can somehow do it without breathing and her heart stops. Same goes for when she's unconcious. Her organs just freeze except for her brain. If she was actually dead then her brain would stop, she'd go pale and go cold. It's her special talent." Shannon explains with a wave of her hand.
"That's both very cool and very scary." Delance says.
Maddison grabbed one if the cloths from Shannon and drops to her knees next to Antonio who was shakily in a sitting position. She dabs gently at the blood trickling from the wounds on his neck made from Ashleys nails. I watch as Antonio watched her every move, something in his gaze was different than usual.
"Steve can you take Ashley up to her room? I'll clean up the mess here." Shannon says quietly. I lift Ashley gently and carry her towards the stairs. Behind me I hear Shannon call after someone
"Oh, and Dylan. Put this in the wound. It speeds up the healing process." I shake my head and keep climbing.
When I get to the room she's staying in I carefully place her down. She looked so peaceful, as if she were sleeping. But she wasn't. She felt and basically was, dead. As I looked down at her I remembered that I said I was going to redo her bandage on her foot so I quickly grab a first aid kit from the closest bathroom and hurry back to the room. I slip off her shoes and undo the bandage on her foot which was stained through.
The wound looked angry and I decided to put on a couple butterfly stitches before dossing a sanitary pad in alcohol and holding it on with a clean bandage. I cleaned everything up and rummaged through the wardrobe. When I come across a fluffy grey blanket I pull it out and cover Ashley. As I leave I stop by the door and look at her over my shoulder. "Wake up soon Ashley. Wake up soon."

It's been a week but Ashley hasn't moved. Not even twitched. She still isn't breathing, her heart us still not working but her brain is. She's alive. For now. I visit every day, before and after work. Shannon barely leaves her side.
"Come for a swim with us Shannon. Just cool off for a bit. Ashley will be fine." Crystal says, trying to convince Shannon to join us.
"I'm not leaving her side. What if she wakes up? I need to be there for her when she does." Shannon sighs. We all nod and head to our rooms to change into our swimming gear.
As I walk past the slightly ajar door to Ashleys room I hear Shannon slowly beginning to sing a Miley Cyrus song.
"Everybody needs inspiration, Everybody needs a song, A beautiful melody, When the nights so long.
'cause there is no guarantee, That this life is easy.
Yeah when my world is falling apart, When there's no light, To break up the dark, That's when I, I, I look at you.
When the waves are flooding the shore, And I can't find my way home anymore, That's when I, I, I look at you.
When I look at you, I see forgiveness, I see the truth, You love me for who I am, Like the stars hold the moon, Right there where they belong, And I know I'm not alone.
Yeah when my world is falling apart, When there's no light, To break up the dark, That's when I, I, I look at you.
When the waves are flooding the shore, And I can't find my way home anymore, That's when I, I, I look at you.
You appear just like a dream to me, Just like kaleidoscope colors that cover me, All I need, Every breath that I breathe, Don't you know you're beautiful, Yeah, yeah, yeah.
When the waves are flooding the shore, And I can't find my way home anymore, That's when I, I, I look at you.
I look at you, Yeah, Whoa-oh, You appear just like a dream to me."
"Really dude? That's the song you sing to me?" A voice croaks and my body goes stiff. Ashley is awake.
"I needed to sing something that you wouldn't like so you'd wake up." Shannon sobs and I smile before slowly sneaking away.
"Where do you think you're going Mr Lasting?" Ashleys dry voice calls after me and I stop before turning and walking back, sticking my head through the door to see the two girls watching me.
"I'm gonna go hang out in the pool with the others." I reply slowly.
"Wait outside the room while we change. I'd really like to chill in a pool since I have been out for a while I'm guessing." Ashley says and I can't help but smile.
"Of course, and it's been around a week." I say before closing the door and waiting in the hallway.
A few minutes later they step from the room and my eyes widen. Shannon wore a halter necked red bikini with white flowers on them. "Dylans gonna love that." I snort and Shannon swats my arm.
"Oh really now." Ashley smiles in amusement and Shannon huffs.
"Friend Ashley. Friend." She sighs and Ashley chuckles.
I eye her slowly. A black one shoulder bikini top and tight black tog shorts. "Eyes up here Steve." She says and I look up at her smiling face.
"You look pretty good for someone who's risen from almost death." I state and she smiles.
"I always look good Steve. Always. Now could you give me a ride down to the pool. I don't think I'll make it." She chuckles and I crouch down. Smiling she climbs onto my back and I grab her legs as I stand. She wraps her arms around my neck loosely and puts her chin on my shoulder.
Shannon leads us down. When we walk out the others gasp in shock before coming to greet Ashley happily, Antonio was more hesitant and Ashley laughed before ruffling his hair. She looks as if nothing had happened. And all it took was a Miley Cyrys song to wake her from her death like sleep.
