VentusThe moon watched over the land of departure from it's place in the midnight sky. The residents of the castle had all gone to their rooms some time ago. But one in particular lay awake.
Ventus tossed and turned, images of a shadowy figure filled his head. Every night for a month now, the figure would stand before him and stare, and although it's face was covered, he could still feel it's haunting glare. And sometimes it would hold it's hand out for Ven to take, and when he didn't, it would uncover it's face to reveal a near mirror image of Ventus.
But the part that disturbed him the most was it's eyes. They were a yellowish-gold. Beautiful? yes. Friendly? Not so much. Familiar to the point it gave him a headache? Definitely.
Overall Ventus had somewhat gotten used to these reacouring dreams.
But tonight was different, because instead of dead-eye stares and slightly dramatic stances -- he talked -- and now Ventus wished he hadn't been 'just a little curious' as to what he sounded like.
"Ventus... I'm coming for you... I won't let them... don't tell them... wait for me-..."
It's voice was distant so Ven couldn't make out half of what it said, but what he did hear was frightening enough to wake him. And the essence of the dream lingered.
Ventus sat up and checked his alarm clock, it read 00:13.
"Oh great" he whispered to himself "How am i gonna wake up on time now...? Aqua's gonna scold me for sure... "
The next few weeks went by painfully slow for Ventus due to the lack of sleep. Terra and Aqua began to worry but the Master was oddly indifferent.
Ventus then wondered who or what the shadowed figure was. And recently there were times a name to match it's face would come to mind, but he tried to dismiss anything related to the dreadful thing that stole precious sleep from him.
Of course Aqua had asked him what was bothering him multiple times, and everytime he tried to tell her, those same words were played over and over again until his heart was filled with panic, and he'd say;
"There's nothing to worry about Aqua! I'm just a bit of a night owl is all, but thanks for asking" then he'd flash her a grin and she'd stop persisting for a while.
The Master either didn't notice or just pretended not too, but either way Ven was grateful he didn't have two people watching him like a hawk.
.... And queue Ventus' newfound ability of jinxing things.
Ventus had decided to go for a walk one night to clear his head. Everyone was supposed to be sleeping so he didn't have to creep around, but he did anyway. Just in case.
When he arrived at the cliff side, he found Terra sitting on one of the stone benchs, seemingly lost in thought. Ventus furrowed his brows in concern.
'Is he having trouble sleeping too?' Ven wondered.
He walked up to Terra and stood behind him, Terra was humming a very familiar tune. Ven couldn't recall what is was called but he knew it by heart, and so he began to hum along.
Without looking away from the sky, Terra patted the empty space next to him. Ventus wasn't surprised, Terra could always tell when it was him somehow.
Ventus wordlessly sat down next to him and admired the glittering heavens. Terra put his right arm around Ventus and pulled him close.
Ventus would never let anyone embrace him. Ever. It had been something he was completely against since he was six. But in moments like this, Terra was an exception.
So Ven leaned into the man's embrace, his head on the burnet's shoulder, Ven felt Terra' s hand play with his hair. He closed his eyes, and sighed in contentment.
It felt nice to have someone who understood your silence.
Terra would never ask what was wrong, and he wouldn't need too. All he did was wait and give Ven physical reassurance, like hugs or petting, and after awhile Ventus would tell him all that was on his mind. Terra would listen and comfort him, eventually all of his fatigue would disappear.
"Don't tell them..."
He heard it again, but it was so clear this time. it sounded as if it were inches away from his ear.
Ventus' body tensed and the feeling of peace was shattered. He now felt like they were being watched. He looked around, feeling paranoid. It was the same feeling he got when looking onto those beast-like golden eyes-- but somehow this was worse.
The shadows suddenly looked darker and the sky no longer eased his mind.
Panic quickly invaded his heart.
He gently shoved Terra's warm arms aside and made a beeline for the castle, without saying a thing.
He unknowingly left Terra feeling hurt and confused. Ven didn't realise it now, and he may never realise it, but if he had stayed with Terra that night despite his fears, a lot of pain could have been avoided.
But now it was too late.
Destiny has closed the paths that could have been, once and for all.
And now everything would fall into place for better or for worse.
