"Hi, I'm Emma Anderson, and I recently moved to Los Angeles," I state briefly, not wanting to say more.

"Welcome, Emma," my teacher, and according to my schedule, Mr. Walter. "Why don't you go have a seat by Mia?"

I go to my pointed seat, and the girl next to me, smiles and waves. I do the same, and start to copy down notes from the board, until I feel a nudge from Mia.

"Oh my god! You were the one bickering with Jax and Tyler this morning! He texted me about you!" She exclaims.

"See, at first I wasn't quite sure, but the description matches you so well! Cropped grey sweater, by the way, I LOVE your Brandy Melville sweatshirt! Um let's see, big brown eyes and hair, pretty face in general..." she reads aloud.

"OMG! He thinks you're beautiful!" she squeals.

"Um yeah, that's me," I muster a smile. "And he said pretty, not beautiful," I retort.

"Pota-toe, po-tat-o," she rolls her eyes, then grins, "I like you already." I smile and internally squeal. New life, new beginnings, new friends. You got this, Emma.

"Thanks, I like you too," I reply, and before I know it, the bell rings. I mentally cheer. Yay! First period over! // ngl this is literally how I get through school :/

As I go through my classes, I can't help but wonder how everyone at this school looks so amazing. It's unreal, really. I'm now stuck in the cafeteria, with the typical where-do-I-sit scenario going on. I'm just about to have a pity party in the library before Mia spots me.

Thank God.

"Emma! Sit here!" she yells, and waves me towards her table.

I'm immediately grateful and start walking towards her table while scanning her group of friends. Two girls are in my math class, a guy from history, Tyler...and my eyes drift to just who I wanted to see, Jax. He hasn't noticed me yet, and is busy talking to Tyler.

I reach Mia's table, and she stands up to introduce me to her group. Clearing her throat, she announces, "Guys, this is Emma, and she'll be sitting with us from now on. She recently moved here, so let's all be nice."

I smile at the warm introduction, until my eyes flit to Jax. With his eyebrows raised and slightly confused look, he looks adorable.

Um what the hell? Jax is not adorable Emma, he's the jerk that caused your stomach to have a bigger bruise than it was.

Jax is sitting next to a stunning girl, with olive tan skin and beautiful brown eyes. She glances at me and smiles. Holy shit. She could be a model. I wonder if she's Jax's girlfriend or something?

Why, are you jealous, Emma? My inner voice taunts me.

No, what the fuck?! Emma, you're not jealous.

Mia makes room for me next to her, and you guessed it, right across Jax.

He's talking to beautiful-model-girl before he turns to me, and says "any more door incidents lately? Or have you finally made the tough decision to not run into them anymore?"

"Actually, there is this polite gesture called 'holding the door.' You might not have heard of it yet, since you're so accustomed to being impolite and rude," I smile sweetly, and I briefly hear Mia and her friends chuckling.

"Yikes, Jax, she got you!" one of Mia's friends says, then turns to me, with a high-five.

"I'm Madison by the way, captain of Riverside's soccer team," she says proudly. She fits right in at this school, with her blonde hair up in a ponytail, and gorgeous features: a perfect sized nose, emerald eyes, and pink, full lips.

"Don't worry, she says that to everyone," the other girl across from her says, rolling her eyes, "feel free to ignore it."

"Cool," I chuckle, and high-five her back.

"I don't think we've met. I'm Megan, Madison's sister," she starts, then adds, "and captain of Riverside's cheer team," she says, mocking Madison. Megan looks nearly identical to her sister, except that her hair is darker, more like a dirty blonde, and keeps it down.

"Oh, and I'm Olivia," model-girl finally says. "I love your Brandy Melville sweatshirt, by the way. It looks nice."

"Oh-uh thanks," I say lamely.

Way to go. It feels like I'm stuck in a "me vs. the girl he told you not to worry about" meme.

"And I'm Noah," I hear from behind me. I turn around, and see a gorgeous guy who looked like he just came out of a magazine. He was slightly curly brown hair and dark brown eyes as well, and also had the cute nerdy look going on.

"Sorry I'm late guys, Samantha dragged me to a club meeting of hers," he rolled his eyes, then asks "who's this?"

"I'm Emma Anderson," I smile, "and I just moved here." I'm desperate to ask about Samantha too, but keep my mouth shut.

"Cool," he winks, "if you're lucky I might even show you around Los Angeles."

I giggle, positive I'm blushing like a tomato. "That sounds fun," I hear myself say.

Lunch flies by, and it seems so soon that I'm walking out of the cafeteria. I hope everyone in Mia's group likes me, and I seem to have really hit it off with Mia (of course), Madison, Noah, and Jax, though he was often talking to Olivia.

I'm about to push the door and walk outside, until Jax comes up and opens the door for me. "Let's make sure another incident doesn't happen again," he grins, looking too cute.

"Chivalry has not died, after all," I say, rolling my eyes yet smiling.

He leans close to whisper to my ear, and says "as long as beautiful girls like you are alive, then no, chivalry will never be dead." Umm cue internal squealing??

I roll my eyes and push him away, mumbling something about personal space, and go to my next class.
