BIG BROTHER

Chapter 3

Amelia's POV
I was rushing around the restaurant taking orders and serving customers. While still having to worry about Arnie, who's sitting in the back by the dishwasher.

"Amelia table 10 has been waiting for almost 25 mins!" My boss Richards shouts at me. "Sorry sir" I mutter as I scurry towards the table.

After taking the family's order, I head towards where I left Arnie. He's right where I left him playing with some cars he brought. "Hey Arnie ca- oh! Arnie don't touch that be careful!" I say quickly when I see him put his hand close to the fryer.

  Luckily he moved away from it as soon as he heard my voice. " Lia can we go now?" He whines for the second time today.

"I told you we can leave when my shift is over ok" I reply "are you hungry or thirsty?" I ask. He just nods his head no and lays on his stomach and continues to play with his cars.

I sigh feeling bad that he has to wait this long, in a kitchen where employees are basically shouting all over, giving orders.

I bend down to his level and whisper in his ear "after this I'll take you to get ice cream ok" I tell him. His eyes brighten at the words that just came out of my mouth.
I walk out of the kitchen and continue to serve rude customers.

I finish wiping down the last table with a smile, happy to get this day over with. I clock out and go grab Arnie who has been waiting to go get ice cream like I promised him.

"Ready to go buddy" I say with a smile
He jumps up excitedly and continues to skip next to me ,as were walking out he accidentally bumps into the bus boy tommy. Tommy drops all the dirty dishes he was holding and turns to us with anger written on his face.

"What the hell you little punk!"
Tommy stands up and pushes Arnie who whimpers at the sudden impact. " s-sorry, I-I'm Sorry" Arnie says while pulling on his ear avoiding eye contact. A common action he does when he's nervous.

"Tommy don't touch him like that! He said he's sorry now just forget it." I say angry that he put his hands on my brother like that.

"It's not my fault he's a retar-" "what is going on here?!" Our boss Richard booms walking towards us. He looks down and see the mess of broken dirty dishes, then up at Arnie.

He sighs already putting together what happened. "Tommy pick up this mess and then you may clock out, miss Adams a word" he gestures me to follow him to his office.

I grab Arnie's hand and tell him to sit in front of the office and wait for me.
Once the door is closed I sit in front of Richard. "Sir I apologize for ruckus my brother caused I promise it wo-" " it won't happen again." He cuts me off,

"I've heard it all before miss Adams, but I'm afraid to break this to you but you can't bring Arnie here again." He states with a sorry look in his eyes.

"W-what, b-but sir" I stutter " I'm sorry but every time he's here he's loud or breaks things, i-its bad for business." He says. " now either you stop bringing him here or you stop working here, your choice" he stands up and walks towards the door and holds it open for me to leave.

I slowly get up walk towards the open door where he stands. Before I'm out of the door he grabs my shoulder "I'm sorry miss Adams, truly I am" he says with a small smile.

I continue walking and get Arnie up from the ground. I do my best to hide the tears that want to fall from my eyes. "Arnie's sorry.." he whispers looking disappointed.

I wipe my eyes "no Arnie you didn't do anything wrong don't worry" I say as I brush my hand through his hair while smiling.
"Let's get you some ice cream now"I smile.
"Yay!" He smiles
We walk towards the ice cream parlor and order two chocolate ice cream cones.

As were walking, the heat from the sun made out cold treats begin to melt quickly. "Arnie, make sure you lick the sides so you don't get any ice cream on.." I look at his chocolate stained mouth and shirt and giggle.

I grab some wipes that I always carry with me for incidents like this. Arnie is to distracted looking at a cop car chase a red truck, to notice me wipe his shirt and mouth off.

"Arnie let's start heading home I have work tomorrow and you still need to take a bath." I tell him.

"Ok" he says nonchalantly looking up at the sky.
We head towards the car and head home.
