I Used to Wake Up Slowly

I used to wake up slowly. When school was in my head.

I used to make a breakfast. I used to make the bed

I used to pay attention. When the blackboard was in sight

I used to sit beside you. And text you late at night.

But only light in humour. I’d sit whit you at lunch.

And laugh about our teacher. But then I had this hunch.

Like something now was different. Different from before.

Like the way you tie your hair, or the way you walk the floor.

I used to wake up slowly. But now I wake up fast.

I throw on all my clothes. I’m earliest in class.

I used to make a breakfast. I used to make the bed.

Now I eat my food while on my way to be whit you instead.

I can hardly pay attention. Watching you brush your hair.

They send me to detention. But I text you while I’m there.

I text you every morning. Before I go to school.

I’m always best in gym class. Trying to be cool.

And one day I’ll be whit you. I’ll make you house and home.

Ill kiss you every morning. I’m certain to my bone.

And I will wake up slowly. Watching you get dressed.

And think about my wife. And how she is the best.
