in victorian times, flowers were used commonly to convey feelings of that could not be expressed in words. gardenias are most commonly used to signify deep love or devotion, adventure and sacrifice. the flower's white color and translation to german mean nobility. since the flower is only found in alpine terrain with short lifespans, it is very brave to venture out to retrieve the flower as many have died in pursuit to do so.
