CHAPTER 4
RealityKiran walks away from the convenience store and looks ahead as she spaces out. Each one of her footsteps echoed against the brick walls of the buildings. It was empty as usual for the time at this end of town, people rarely came out either because they were in nightclubs or they were afraid of getting caught up with a gang.
But the girl never worried much because she had yet to have a run in with anyone, yet she wouldn't care even if she did. In the silence, she began to talk to herself about the conversations she had with the boys before. "Was that Jaemin's little warning? Did he tell me a different story from his friends to tell me something? Or am I overthinking it?"
"Who can you believe when even your own blood likes to fuck you over and tries to get you killed." Kiran kicks a rock and looks up at the night sky, thinking of where to go to talk to Mark.
⋯━━━━━∙♕∙━━━━━⋯
"You guys are idiots," Jaemin turns around and resumes his position behind the counter.
Renjun holds onto Chenle shoulder to make sure the young boy didn't do anything rash, "How so?"
"When Mark was almost killed, Kiran was the same age as him," Jaemin stares down the two boys who had further ruined his mood, "meaning she was twelve and couldn't have been a nurse practicing in the hospital."
"Johnny said she was the only one in the room," Chenle speaks up, annoyed Jaemin was trying to protect an Oh medic.
Jaemin scoffs, irritated by the boys before him, "Then why didn't she stop Johnny when he was helping Mark leave?"
"She was a little, twelve year old girl, why would she try to go against someone who was about four years older than her?" Renjun refutes Jaemin's argument.
"She could've screamed or done something a supposedly well trained, young Oh nurse would know to do." Jaemin rolls his eyes at Chenle, who was sending him dirty looks, "Leave, I have to check on inventory."
"Why would we need to leave for you to do that?" Chenle raises a brow, confused on why it was necessary for him to leave.
Jaemin glares at the two, "You don't need to, it was just my way of telling you both to get out in a nicer way than I want to."
Renjun was taken back by Jaemin's attitude, he knew himself and Chenle upset him but not to this extent. "Well I guess we'll see you tonight, Dream is coming together tonight to talk about the Mark incident."
"Fine," Jaemin coldly states before paying no more attention to the two who were slowly leaving the store.
Both Renjun and Chenle were actaully quite startled at Jaemin's attitude as the boy was not one to get angry easily, in fact he was the one to usually joke around and sweet talk with everyone. However when it came to the idea of something with Kiran, he immediately was one to defend her rather than his team. Jaemin was not one to trust so easily, not after a girl tricked him and forced him out of commission for about two years.
But it was very likely Jaemin met Kiran while he wasn't working with NCT for those two years. The two years where he rarely talked to anyone from NCT, where NCT barely acknowledged his existence because he was of no use. The two years where his priorities changed.
⋯━━━━━∙♕∙━━━━━⋯
Mark sat on the couch of his living room as he silently examined the bandages wrapped around his arm. He wasn't allowed to be active until his wounds had healed as a request from Taeil and Taeyong.
But all of NCT wanted him to rest as he had gotten out of control as of lately.
"Mad you can't do anything since you're all injured?" Donghyuck chuckles as he walks into the living room to see Mark staring blankly at his bandages.
Mark's focus quickly shoots over to Donghyuck, "Who says I'm doing nothing?"
"Taeil and Taeyong, they told you to rest up and to not get into anything while your injuries are healing." Donghyuck jumps over the couch and takes his place next to Mark, his hands wandering the couch, "The rest of Dream and I are going to talk about the ones who attacked you last night, don't worry, we'll get them."
Mark scoffs, annoyed he isn't allowed to get to the ones who assaulted him, "If you don't you're dead meat."
"Got it," Donghuck put his hands in the air, "they'll get what they deserve."
"Give me my phone back," Mark says with an unamused tone, noticing his phone was no longer at his side.
Donghyuck takes the phone behind him and tosses it to Mark, "Nothing can get passed you, huh? What have you been so impatient about that you keep checking your phone?"
"What do you mean?" Mark questions, catching his phone and placing it at his side once again.
"Do you think I didn't notice?" Donghyck stands up and cracks his neck, "In between your stare off with you bandages, you would check your phone like you're expecting something."
Mark shrugs Donghyuck off, "Who could I be expecting something from? None of the other guys want to talk to me because I'm pissed off about having to rest and I don't give my phone number out."
"You make good points," Donghyuck nods as he walks away from the couch, "well have fun sitting there and doing nothing, I'm going to meet with Dream now."
Mark watches as Donghyuck strides out of the door, leaving Mark alone in his apartment, as it always is. The boy lets out a sigh and leans his head back, staring at the tall, plain white ceiling which had a chandelier hanging in the middle, it dripped with the finest cut diamond that fell from the golden substructure. The chandelier matched well with Mark's luxurious apartment which sat at the top floor of the building her lived in.
Yes, Mark was able to afford this and much more, as the rest of the member of NCT were too. They made millions, but they still were never satisfied and craved for more. Over the years they slowly lost themselves and began to live the glamorous life of deceit and murder, all for the sake of money and power.
And Mark was no exception to this.
However there was one person who lost the desire for authority and riches, the one who's work was interrupted due to an unexpected impairment to his spine. He was then excused from all work and almost disappeared from NCT for two years until he came back more focused than ever, yet something was still off to Mark. His eyes didn't hunger for the power as everyone else did. He only did what was necessary to help NCT, never wanting to claim everything for himself.
That's why he works at that convenience store, working there was his source of income. Yet he never complained once about the job, unlike how most the boys in Dream would act. Jaemin seemed more distant and independent from Dream, it was like he didn't need NCT to survive anymore. And the reality is he doesn't, but Mark is the only one who's noticed.
Was it the Oh nurse that changed Jaemin's priorities and morals?
Before Mark could go deeper into the topic, he hears his text tone ring. Mark tilts his head, thinking of who he expected it to be. The notification Mark was expecting for and Donghuck wanted to know about. A text from the one and only Oh Kiran.

Then I'll see you tonightMark stared at his phone screen for a little longer before getting up to get ready for his dinner with Kiran. His motives unclear, but anyone can speculate what Mark wanted. After all, there are only two things Dream's Demon wants: power and authority.
