I look down at the busy streets of London and frown. In mere moments a young woman and her unborn child are going to die. Not because of an illness, or accident, but because some bastard wants to spill blood. Their blood. And for no reason other than the fact that the child isn't his.

How cruel this world is. The fact that no one knows the true value of life. Not even I did till it was too late. I had to learn the hard way. How I wish that the rest of humanity could learn from not only my mistake from from the mistakes of every reaper.

Life isn't a game or something to toy with. It's a gift. One that should be cherished and taken with care. Not thrown to the wind with such carelessness.

I want to interfere and be the hero I never had. But I can't. It's not my place, not my role to play. I can only watch with a heavy heart and be there to comfort them once the whole ordeal is done and over with. But even that won't do much good.

I remember how scared I was when I saw my own body. It was torn to pieces, bloody, and ice cold. It was horrified that such a sight. I couldn't believe the damage that was down by jumping into a river. I thought I had drowned but the true cause of death was brain damage. I had hit my head so hard against a rock that it had killed me. I still have pain from time to time because of it.

But that is the past and I must focus on the present. My mentor seems to act as though he couldn't care less about what is to happen to this woman. Is that what becomes of every Reaper? They become so used to the death and violence that they no longer care? Is that my fate as well? I may not care of my own well being but when it comes to innocent people I can't help but to care. I can't help but want to protect them in the way no one ever did for me.

"OH (Y/N)!!!!" The idiot shouts as he jumps up from behind me... Only to have me turn around and punch him.

"Woops. Instinct." I shrug and turn back to the scene below us.

"YOU'RE INSTINCT IS TO PUNCH SOMEONE WHEN THEY SAY YOUR NAME!!!"

"When they come out of nowhere and shout in my ear, yes."

"Why are you so cruel to me?" Grell whimpers and pouts off to the side.

"Do you really want me to answer that?"

"No... But what are you watching anyway?" He peers over my shoulder at the young woman.

"I'm watching our assignment. She is going to die soon."

"Oh. You're all work and no play. I thought children loved to play."

Anger flashes through my eyes and I slowly turn to look at him. He backs away in fear. "Are you implying that I'm a child?"

"Yes... Maybe... NO! I mean NO!"

"You are as dim as a flickering flame. I am a child. Just one that has no time for games." I say with a blank face and turn away from him.

"She's as terrifying as Bassy... I bet they would get along. Maybe even be friends... THEN I WOULD HAVE A REASON TO STAY WITH BASSY! AND WILLIAM CAN'T GET MAD AT ME!!!"

"Idiot." I grumble under my breath as he continues to ramble on and on about that demon. "Don't you have anything else to ramble about? Hearing you express how desperate you are is starting to get on my nerves."

"Desperate? I'm not desperate."

"That's not what it sounds like to the rest of us."

"Us?"

"She means us." William says as he uses his scythe to push up his glasses. "Idiot."

"Hey kiddo! How's it going with the idiot?" Ronald asks and ruffles my hair.

"He's a pain in the ass." I sigh and swat his hand away from me.

"HEY! IM NOT THAT BAD!"

"You're worse." All three of us say in unison.

"Now if you don't mind me asking, why are you here?"

"Just thought we should check up on you and make sure you didn't kill this one yet."

"Do you mean our assignment or that idiot?" I ask and point at my mentor.

"Take a guess."

"The idiot it is."

"WOULD YOU QUITE CALLING ME AN IDIOT!!!!" Grell shouts at us and his face turns bright red with anger.

"No." Ronald and I say in a bored tone.

Before anyone can say anything else we hear a scream of pain and fear before a deathly silence falls over us. My heart falls and so does my face. Grell looks over at me with concern before I turn away from and jump to the ground.

"Let's just get this over with. We have more work to do after this woman." I grumble under my breath and turn towards the alleyway. Blood is starting to pool from an open door away and the sickly stench is nauseating. But this is my life now. This is what I deal with. It's best to just handle things quickly and mourn later.
