Jane's POV
"Marvin, honestly," I said, annoyed, "would you please stop talking for a moment?"
"Jane, honestly," he mocked me, "would you stop talking?"
I still found it hard to believe he was not a bloody parrot. All he ever did was mock what I said. He never seemed to do it with anyone else either. I had been trying for hours to get the other Guardians to calm down but they just kept talking excitedly to each other.
"Everyone, please. This is important," I tried again. I was ignored once again.
"For Heaven's sakes!" I finally shouted, having had enough, "Ianuae has died and Disputatio has foreseen her return!" The room went silent and four pairs of blue eyes turned to stare at me.
"Jane, that's ridiculous," Diego said, "you know magic can't raise the dead."
"Well we also all know the prophecies foreseen by the Lakes are always accurate," Amber argued.
"It seems the girl was not actually dead," I explained, "her soul was trapped inside of a locket and has been for twenty years. Someone plans to free her from the locket during the Triwizard tournament."
"Ohmygod!" Diego shouted, horrified.
"Excellent," I said, "now that I have gotten your attention; what are we going to do? Is this even heard of historically?" I asked, directing my question at Lewis. He had an extensive knowledge of the prophecy's history, having been around since its beginning. He was the original Guardian and we looked to him for guidance on a regular basis.
"It's not heard of, no. Although I don't think it will affect anything. When the lake representatives die, another is put in their place, but Ianuae did not actually die, so there isn't likely to have been a replacement. Amber," he addressed.
"Yes, Lewis?" she questioned.
"Since you are Ianuae's Guardian, you would know better than anyone. Has there been a replacement for Adelia Riddle?" Lewis asked her.
"No there hasn't. As a matter of fact, I've been spending the last twenty years looking for Adelia. I had found her before her disappearance, but then she disappeared and I didn't know where she was. I knew she wasn't dead, though; I hadn't felt it. Nor had I heard from The Knight." She explained.
"So it must be true," Marvin said, "we all get the cold and painful feeling when our representatives die. And then our vision goes black and we pass out until a new representative is assigned to us by The Knight. If Amber didn't go through any of that, then Adelia must be alive."
"Thank you, Marvin," I said sarcastically, rolling my eyes, "we have established that she is alive and we all know what happens to us when our representative dies."
He began to mock me again, but Lewis interrupted him, "Marvin, shut up. This isn't a laughing matter."
Marvin did as requested. When the oldest Guardian tells you to shut up, that is what you do. I honestly did not believe Marvin had any respect for anyone but Lewis. And himself obviously.
"So what do we do, Lewis?" Diego asked, "about the girl I mean."
"We must let her be brought back," Lewis said, "If we don't, the prophecy won't come true. And we all know what happens if the prophecy does not come to pass."
Indeed we did. If we did not allow the prophecy to come to pass, the wizard race would be eradicated, leaving only muggles to remain. And the Guardians would cease to exist.
