**(This fan fiction story plays off of the Yu-gi-oh! anime and the Yu-gi-oh! movie Dark Side Of Dimensions. This is a long book that I hope will consist of several chapters, so if you want a quick read that gets to the juicy details right off the bat then this may not be the story for you. But I hope you can give it a try and enjoy! Also, I tried my best to proofread my work but...heh...I'm definitely no scholar. Regardless, I hope you enjoy the plot!

So much has changed ever since high school had ended for Joey Wheeler and his friends, and while everyone seemed to know what to do with their lives Joey had hit a wall. He walked the streets of Domino City with his hands in his pockets, as it had been a way to clear his head and it had turned into an almost daily routine.

Joey and his friend, Yugi Muto, lived above the Game store where they also worked alongside one another. Along with Yugi's grandpa, he and Joey were responsible for a busy shop and eager customers, and as a result, free time was usually late in the evening far after the game store closed. After a long day, Joey and Yugi dueled on one of the tables in the store because, unfortunately, a once exciting and unpredictable life for him had quickly turned into drab days and work schedules.

What Joey missed the most was the woman who he loved and cherished, Mai Valentine. She traveled around the country and, after Joey's many failed attempts to come along, ultimately wanted to ride alone. This, more than anything else, crushed him so deeply. His mind had been consumed by unanswered questions as to how, after all they've been through, she could just leave him and be alright with that. He questioned his worth so many times but his sister, Serenity always comforted him in ways his two friends, Yugi and Tristan, couldn't. Still, at night he would lay restless, unfulfilled and had no idea what or who would give him that feeling of excitement again. Sometimes Joey found himself missing duelist kingdom or all of those insane, life-threatening shadow duels he was once involved in. He imagined, as he closed his eyes, being in Mai's arms as the sun set. Sometimes he missed Tea, too. He missed how she laughed at his corny jokes and even when she didn't, her face always looked so cute when she judged him.

As the days turned into nights, somehow, Joey stayed the same. Something had to change in his life, something had to excite him again or else he would lose his mind. Would duel monster tournaments be the answer? No, for it still was not the same; he was too attached to a memory-- a past he could never retrieve. If anything, tournaments caused him even more depression, as they were just a reminder that he no longer dueled to save lives but to just win different prizes. Joey, once being full of happiness and jokes, had fake smiles and forced laughter just so no one would see the real pain deep within his heart.
