Maddi was one of the best things that had ever happened to me. She listened to me, made me feel like I had something to live for. She would always save my seat for me on the bus and in Mathematics Class. She would hold my hand if there was a storm coming or someone I didn't like around. We had all the same classes and the same bus.
At one point on one of our many bus rides together, she gave me the question, "Tal, are you gay?"
I hesitated for a moment and realised I could trust her. It's 2018. What could happen? I nodded politely.
"Oh, thank god," she praised. I put down my phone and gave her a puzzled look. "Uh... look, I have a bit of a gay factor myself for a particular person."
'Same.'
"Who?"
'Well, she has beautiful curly chestnut hair that flows down to her shoulders, a smile like a rainy day's sunset and some wonderful shades of gold and green flecked in her hazel eyes.'
"What's her name?"
'It's you, you doof.'
Her eyes lit up in such a way, I thought she might explode. She squealed for a little and then just kissed me. Lucky we were in the front seat and no one saw that.
"Well guess who just got a girlfriend?" she asked smoothly.
'You.'
Squealing, she got up and pecked my forehead before running off the bus with the crowd.
That was the day the greatest girl stole my heart completely.
