Her lips were on mine.
I held her between my arms as she sat on my lap. My hands roamed all over her body as if worshipping a treasure. I am intoxicated by her—intoxicated by each and every detail of her existence. She's like a drug that I am addicted to and I am drowning in her. She filled my mind like chemical.
I kissed her passionately, giving it my all. I wanted to make her feel good. I wanted to make all her worries go away especially when she cried in my arms as we faced the problems with the supplier. It was the first that I saw her like that. She had always been a strong and independent woman. She always held her head high and made the smart decisions. She's like fire—elegant, strong, and fearless. But in that moment, I saw that fire turn into a delicate flower that I wanted to keep between my hands and cherish forever.
For a moment, there was just the two of us. Our bodies pressed together inside my office that became our secret haven for many months. For a moment, there was just her in front of my eyes. For a moment, she filled my whole being.
Then, reality woke me up.
I was pulled back from my thoughts when my phone rang. I had to break our kiss just to check who it was, thinking that it might be something important, feeling a bit frustrated as we were interrupted.
Guilt and fear flooded my chest the moment my eyes landed on the screen of my phone. My wife's name flashed as the phone rang continuously.
"It's my wife." I said when I looked up at her.
Rather than it being a statement, it sounded more like something else. But I didn't know what it was. It was like I waited for the woman in front of me to say something as the sound of the phone filled the office.
Something flashed in her eyes before she told me to answer the call as she got off me and motioned to stand up. My whole body reacted and my hand automatically gripped her wrist, lightly tugging her back to me.
My mind screamed, Don't let her go.
I cleared my throat as I answered the call. I willed myself to sound as normal as I could and I even mustered a smile. This is my reality. I had to wake up from that intoxicating dream.
I heard her soft voice on the other line.
"Yeah..." I answered when she asked me if I was still at the office.
It was in that moment where I felt how my world had this division—invisible to the eyes of others but it was clear as day for me. There I was, in my office, holding the woman who got closer to my heart than how I intended her to be while I was talking to the wife that I love and promised to be with forever.
The woman in my office got my attention as she tried to pull her hand from me. I looked at her and saw it again in her eyes; that unfamiliar shadow that I had been seeing lately.
"Where are you going?" I mouthed at her, careful not to make a sound.
She mouthed back that she was going to the restroom.
I didn't want to let her go but I soon realized that she too must've felt the awkwardness of the situation we were in.
I looked at her as she grabbed her purse from the table and looked at me one more time. I saw how the faint image of tears started to make her eyes glassy. I wanted to hold her once again or tell her something. When I saw the emotions that danced on her face, my heart ached and something inside me wanted to end the phone call and talk to the woman in front of me. But all I did was just mouth back to her the word, Return.
