"life's more painless, for the brainless" - fiyero (dancing through life)

prologue

Oliver was stunned. Not by a taser or a wasp, but by a boy in very tight-fitting pants. He drew in a shaky breath as the boy pirouetted across the stage, landing perfectly on his feet as he sung out a tune that every theatre nerd would know.

"Dancing through life, skimming the surface..."

Oliver was entranced by the boy's heavenly voice and could hear his heart pounding out of his tiny chest. Oliver wasn't a theatre nerd, Nor was he a professional singer, but he damn well knew that this boy was something special.

It was a school production. Oliver's best friend, Wyatt, had pleaded Oliver to participate in a school activity with him. And that school activity was the drama club's production of "Wicked". It wasn't that Wyatt was trying to become more involved in school, it was because Wyatt was seduced by a random girl and he decided to drag Oliver along so that he could be his wingman. Oliver still has yet to see the girl.

"Don't worry dude, she said she was coming! Although, I did see her talking to other guys... shit! I was duped by a pretty girl again..." Wyatt groaned.

Oliver didn't react. He was too busy staring at the boy's glorious ass. He needed to know the name of this boy who made his heart beat at a thousand miles per hour. He scrambled to find the "playbill" that the guy outside was handing out. Oliver didn't know who this Bill was and why people wanted to play with him (hopefully all that playing was legal), but this Bill guy would definitely give him a name to the angel in front of him. As he turned the pages of the playbill, it was as if God himself had whispered the words in his ears. Teddy Morgan Bailey.

He hugged the playbill to his chest and sighed in adoration as he sunk back unto his seat and kept on repeating the words Teddy Bailey in his mind. How had he never noticed this boy before?

Looking around the theatre, Oliver realised he wasn't the only one who had fallen for Teddy's charms. Girls (and some guys) were panting with delight at the sound of Teddy's beautiful voice, especially Tommy Bell, who practically had his hands down his pants for the entirety of the song. Now, Oliver was gay, and he didn't mean to discriminate, but Tommy Bell was the definition of a gay stereotype. Flamboyant and prone to throwing tantrums, Tommy Bell was one of the reasons Oliver decided to stay in the closet. Well, that and the fact that his parents are very religious and stupidly homophobic and would probably crucify him if he were to say he wanted to fuck men.

Oliver had been in the safe zone for many years. He had never had a real crush before. Sure, he drooled over Chad Dylan Cooper like everybody else, but he never actually liked a non-celebrity. Someone real.

After the musical, Oliver asked Wyatt what he knew about Teddy. Oliver knew Wyatt would know something because he was always updated in all the gossip. The reason for that isn't because Wyatt is a really popular guy, in fact, both him and Oliver were just ordinary students. The kind of students you would see standing by their lockers in the background as fillers in teen movies. No, Wyatt just hid in dark corners to smoke weed so he heard everyone's secrets.

Teddy Bailey was almost too perfect. He was president of the drama club. An aspiring broadway actor. And one of the most popular guys in school. Though he had that popularity, he wasn't egoistical about it. You would expect him to steal kids' lunch money or bully nerds into doing his homework for him, but he actually pays for people's lunches and does his own homework. Amazing.

Teddy was very handsome. He had that sort of Prince Charming look. He had hazel eyes which Oliver could imagine staring into under the night sky as soft music played in the background. His lips were pink like a frosted sprinkled donut, which made Oliver wonder if they tasted the same. And his smile. Oh god his smile. When Teddy smiled, it was like when you go to Dunkin Donuts at 9pm and they start handing out free donuts. His smile was simply magical.

Oliver had almost lost all hope when he saw Teddy kiss the actress who played Glinda (Her name was Haley and she's been his Best Friend since forever) and his hope almost exploded when he saw girls hanging off of him after the musical, though he did look very uncomfortable. However, once Wyatt told him a piece of very important information, Oliver's hope had resurrected itself just like Jesus.

Teddy Bailey was an out bisexual guy. He didn't care about what everyone said about him. He was out and proud. And Oliver was somewhat jealous of that. Sure he wasn't the only out person in the entire school, just take Tommy Bell for example, but it takes a lot to just own your sexuality.

The school production was a turning point for poor Oliver. It was in his freshman year that Oliver Wright had first discovered this new species named Teddy Bailey and it was only in Junior year did he decide to grow some balls and talk to him. As those balls were still germinating, Oliver spent most of his days secretly stalking Teddy and digging a hole for his inner gay. Oliver couldn't come out yet. There were too many consequences for him. But as Long a he could stare at Teddy from afar, Oliver was sure he would be okay.

But in the deep trenches of his heart, he yearned for something more with Teddy. He wanted to talk to him, he wanted to hang out with him and maybe even hold his hand.

So our story starts on the first day of Oliver's junior year. And oh what a year that turned out to be.
