Dakota Lullaby.
That name echoes through many minds at Northern High.
Dakota Lullaby.
The guy who only likes red. Some believe it's a pickup line, others think it's an excuse, and outsiders say it's a problem.
One quiet morning when Dakota was strolling through the halls of his high school, his eyes caught something red. He turned towards a girl with red lipstick, who was giggling with her friend. She wasn't all that pretty to him, but her red lips full of laughter sent a shiver down his spine. Dakota moved towards the girl and did not stop until his lips made contact with the beautiful red.
When he pulled away, the girl asked frightened, "Why, why did you do that?"
He gave a simple reply, saying, "I just really love red."
Then he licked his lips and walked away like nothing had happened.
There was another time when a group of boys walked up to Dakota's desk before class had started, and strictly out of curiosity, asked what his favorite holiday was.
When he answered, "Valentines Day." A few of the boys sneered.
"Hm, don't get me wrong," he replied, "I just really love red."
Red. It's all he cares about. It's all he talks about. The only thing he ever knows is red! He acts like the color birthed him, like the color is his savior! Like he'll have something to gain if that's all he ever talks about!
Surely, you can see he has a problem, but I'm only an outsider, a drifter. Who am I to say what someone can love? Except, he is a bit obsessed with the color red. I've never known a person to love such a color so much, it's exhausting all his love.
I suppose there's nothing we can do about Dakota's "madness." Sooner or later, he's going to have to grow up and learn that not everyone loves the color red.
