Hey everyone! This is going to be a Dramione story but is going to start off with a little bit of Theodore/Hermiome. I've always thought the idea of a Draco/Hermione/Theodore love triangle would make for some interesting reading. I don't own anything.
A cool breeze blew my hair across my face as I arrived at the Burrow. I made my way to the door, I always chose to apparate outside as the muggle in me thought it rude to barge into someone's home. I knocked firmly on the door. Moments later an ecstatic Mrs. Weasley greeted me, enveloping me into a bone-crushing embrace.
"Hermione! Come in, come in!" she said with a smile, moving to allow me to pass with my trunks. "I am just thrilled you, Harry and Ron decided to finish your education." I responded with a polite smile and made my way to greet all the Weasleys.
Harry arrived shortly after dinner that night with a new snowy owl, Fred. We hadn't been in contact much all summer. I was trying to obtain a normal life while Harry was on his way to becoming an Auror. Ron spent most of his time with his family, they were going through a very difficult time and neither one of us, Harry or I, blamed him. It wasn't until a few weeks ago that we recieved a letter, with an all too familiar red seal. Hogwarts would be allowing all 7th years back, as the war made studying impossible. I was hesitant, but in the end decided I would be best to return. Ron accepted immediately, as it was a valid excuse to leave home, which had become a depressing atmosphere. Harry couldn't make up his mind, but one of his mentors convinced him it would help him on his way to becoming an Auror. After that it was simple; the Golden Trio fell back into place as if we hadn't missed a moment together.
After a couple days in the Burrow, it was time to board the Hogwarts express. Tearful goodbyes were in order after stepping onto Platform 9 3/4. Including an especially heart-wrenching one between Harry and Ginny. Ginny had decided to stay behind and help her grieving mother, despite Mrs. Weasley's strong objections. Next it was my turn to say farewell to my closest friend.
"Stay safe," Ginny whispered, throwing her arms around me.
"I'll try. Don't have too much fun without us," I replied with a weak, insincere smile.
"Same to you.. And Hermione?"
"Yeah?" I questioned even though I knew what she would ask.
"Take care of Harry." Her eyes glistened with the threat of tears. I just nodded, wishing I knew a love like that.
Harry, Ron and I found an empty compartment and filed in silently. There were mixed emotions about going to Hogwarts this year. We would all be leaving something behind, but returning to what had become our second home.
"So what exactly have you both been up to this summer?" Ron asked, breaking the comfortable silence.
"Nothing exciting," I answered first, "Muggle stuff mostly, I think it might be safer that way." That wasn't the reason. We all knew it. "I might be able to get my parents back too... You know.. Eventually." I voiced it as an afterthought, but Harry and Ron knew me well enough to know it meant everything to me.
Harry waited but went ahead with his stories about his summer. All previous issues were forgotten as we allowed ourselves to get caught up in his adventures.
Not long after, the door to the compartment slid open. A girl that looked to be about a sixth year handed me a small envelope, not waiting for me to open it before she left.
Miss Granger,
Please come straight to my office once we reach Hogwarts. Thank you,
Headmistress McGonagall.
"What's it say?" Ron inquired excitedly, reminding me so much of the energetic red-headed first year I met seven years ago. I smiled at the memory before responding.
"Nothing important, McGonagall just wants to see me before the Welcoming Feast." They nodded as the train came to a stop.
Hagrid excitedly hugged the three of us as soon as he spotted us. I wrapped my arms around as much of him as I could, genuinely happy to see the friendly half-giant.
It wasn't long after that I found myself outside the headmistress' office, realising I was stuck here until someone came with the password.
"Picklebreath," I tried half-heartedly, whipping around as I heard someone chuckling. Theodore Nott.
"Sherbert Lemon," he said flatly, before turning and smirking at me. The staircase revealed itself, and I glanced hesitantly from the stairs to Nott. What was he even doing here?
"Ladies first," he stated, "Oh wait... I think there's an exception for mudbloods." He waltzed up the stairs, all I could think to do was send death glares at his back.
McGonagall sat behind her desk, with a thin smile on her face. Nott was politely standing next to his seat, waiting for me to join him. I couldn't stand the way he acted so kind and innocent in front of the headmistress.
"Please, have a seat." McGonagall said pleasantly. "You're probably wondering why I called you here." She paused and I nodded, not bothering to see Nott's reply. "As you know each year a Head Boy and Girl are assigned to help keep an eye on the students and keep them in line." I was Head Girl? Sure I always knew I was the smartest witch of my age but I never realized what that entailed. "This year there will be a designated common room and dormitories for the Heads. It will be located at a convenient location to patrol, and will help promote House unity. The same rules apply to-"
I didn't catch the rest.. Nott and I would have to share a common room? Just the two of us? Sure he wasn't my worst enemy, but he was still a Slytherin! I try not to discriminate, but it's a fact that they all hate muggle-borns! This is one of the people that have mocked my entire life at Hogwarts and I have to live with him?
"Excuse me, but I really don't mind staying in Gryffindor." Nott nodded in agreement next to me. McGonagall giggled slightly.
"Miss Granger, for a girl as smart as yourself I would think you would recognize a formality when you heard one. You don't actually have a choice." The humour vanished from her face, "Now we have a Sorting to attend, let's not keep everyone waiting.
I know, I know no Draco yet. Next chapter, I promise. And I know the whole Heads thing is a bit cliche, but I tried to change it up with the Head Boy being Nott instead. Hope you liked and please leave feedback! Thanks for reading! xx
