So I stayed in New York for a while. No one recognized me; they probably just thought I was another girl with an ordinary life, even though nothing about my life was ordinary. The man that was letting me stay in the apartment was away a lot. He was only really there for like a couple of days at a time, so it was nice to be alone - plus I got to manage a business. He was supposed to be back that night, after I closed up, which was good because I needed to talk to him.
I continued the day as normal - I was the waitress for a lot of people, I ordered things, and sat around thinking about my life. Closing time came as usual, and I cleaned up, washed the dishes, and waited for the owner to return. I went behind the bar and grabbed a cup, placed three ice cubes in, and poured a tad of scotch. The owner walked through the doorway, and he was especially loud this time, as he was coughing up a storm. He turned around and jumped a little bit. "You scared me," he said, laughing.
"That's my life," I responded, brushing it off.
"Why are you up this late? You're usually in bed by now," he stated curiously.
"I need to talk to you."
"About?"
"I need to leave town for about three weeks, so I'll need Jessica to take over when I'm gone," I explained.
"Where are you going?" he asked.
"I have some business to take care of out of town," I said, taking a sip of scotch.
"I'd like to know what you're doing, so I know why Jessica is taking over," he ordered.
I got up from my seat and walked over to him.
"Look, I don't ask why you go out of the city so much, even though I know why. My best advice for you is to let me do what I need to do and I will let you do what you want without telling your wife about your mistress. Got it?" I hissed.
He shook his head vigorously. "Yeah, I got it," he said emotionlessly.
"That's what I thought." I smiled and turned away. "Goodnight," I said, walking off.
I went upstairs to my bedroom and lay on my bed. I started to twirl my hair around my finger and looked over at my phone. I picked it up and started to dial a number.
"Hello?" Noel asked.
"Hey, I'm coming into town tomorrow around four o'clock. I need you to pick me up," I told him.
"Okay. See you then."
I hung up the phone and closed my eyes.
The next day I hurriedly gathered enough clothes for three weeks before heading to the airport. I boarded the plane and left for Rosewood. Noel met me right outside the town when I got off the plane. I entered the car and he smiled at me.
"Okay, so, what's the latest with my girls?" I asked him.
"There's a wedding today," he told me.
"Whose wedding?" I asked.
"Hanna's dad is getting married. The girls received missions from A," he added.
"Okay... what were the missions?"
"Hanna has to ruin the wedding, whilst Aria and Spencer just need to follow an order. Emily on the other hand is supposed to be headed somewhere."
"We need to find Emily ASAP," I demanded. He nodded and started the car, speeding off from the airport and going straight to Rosewood. Whilst on the way, I used Noel's phone to track where Emily was headed.
"I got a route to her. Take Old Pine Road," I told him.
He swerved and started following the directions that I was giving him. When we got to what was supposedly Emily's location, she wasn't with the phone.
"We need to find her right now," I said, panicking.
"Split up?" he asked me.
"Well yeah, we won't find her together in the middle of nowhere," I growled.
He ran off in one direction, and I ran in the other. I found a barn and heard a running car engine inside. I glanced at the padlock on the door and found that it hadn't been locked, so I ran up and opened it. I spotted Emily in a blue dress that looked like it belonged to a doll. Picking her up under her arms, I pulled her out from the garage. I sat down in the grass in my black, skin tight jeans and my boots with her head on my lap. She woke up and started to suspiciously look around, noticing me, and I smiled at her.
"It's okay, you're with me now," I said soothingly.
"Alison?" she whispered.
"It's so good to see you, Emily! I think I've missed you the most," I said, bursting out into a smile. She attempted to get up, but I slowly pushed her head back down.
"No, just rest. It's what you need, rest," I told her. "I never told you this, but you were always my favorite. Nobody ever loved me as much as you did." I smiled at her.
"Is this what dying is?" she asked me.
"That bitch thinks this is what you really want - to be completely free of A," I responded.
"Do you know who A is?" she questioned.
"Of course I do," I lied to her, somewhat.
"Tell me," she demanded.
"I don't think that's a good idea," I suggested.
"Why?"
"Because two can only keep a secret if one is dead," I recited. "You have to decide what you want. Emily. You can stay here or you can come with me," I said, taking a breath, then stroking her hair as she closed her eyes. "Sweet Emily," I said, before bending down and kissing her on her lips. I got back up and she fell asleep.
I pulled Emily off of me and left the area to find Noel. After, I had him take me home to Ravenswood. The only reason I lied to Emily about knowing A is because I only partly knew; I knew that Mona was an A - but she was not the A who tried to hurt me, as there were different A's.
I went downstairs to check my mailbox and it was full. I was curious about who it could be from, because it was labeled to Vivian Darkbloom, not Alison DiLaurentis. I ran back upstairs to my apartment, locked myself in and opened the letter.
My Dearest Alison,
No matter what we have gone through, I have discovered that you are not dead, and I will help you figure out who A is, even if it's the last thing I do. I'm putting the pieces together slowly. Give me time. Will explain soon.
