I was walking out of the school when Sophie ran up to me.

"I think we should hang out today. We'll paint each other's nails," Sophie says.

"Okay," I say, softly.

"Don't look now but Aaron's staring at you," Sophie whispers. I turn around and as I make eye contact with Aaron and he looks away. He laughs at something his friends say and looks back at me and smiles. I smile back. I heard a car speed toward me. The car screeches to a stop in front of me. It was my brother, Jack.

"Get your ass in the car," Jack says, he looked upset.

"Jack, what's going on?" I ask him.

"How about we go to Froyo and talk okay?" Jack says. I was worried.

"Okay," I say. I walk quickly to the other side of the car and quickly get into his car. He speeds off. After a while, I looked at the speed pedometer. He was going 86.

"Jack, slow down!" I yell.

"Shut up!" Jack yells.

"Please, Jack slow down!" I say. Jack sighs and slams on the brakes. I lung forward but my seatbelt yanked me back.

"What the fuck?" I yell.

"Mom and Dad are getting divorced," Jack says. When I hear those words, my heart skips a beat.

"What?" I say, trying to keep my voice steady.

"Ariel, I'm sorry," Jack says. That's when I break down sobbing. Jack slows down and pulls over to the side of the road. He pulls me to him and I let him. I sob into his chest.

"Shh, it's going to be okay," Jack says. I pull away from him.

"Let's go home," I whisper. Jack nods and drives us home. When we get home, I go straight to my room and sob into my pillow.
