Carl was humming what sounded like a country song under his breath. We crossed the Texas border four hours ago. We were somewhere in West Texas now. I was wondering if we were going to stop when Carl pulled off the freeway and drove into a shopping center. He slid into a parking spot and threw it into park.
"Right," he barked. "Get me a drink and get you something while we're here. I'll wait right here.". I raised my eyebrows in question. He sighed, reached into his pocket and threw some cash at me.
I climbed out of the car and shut the door. He drove a beat up Dodge. It'd seen better days 20 years ago. I looked around for a second and got my bearings. We were at a strip mall. There are your various department stores and there was a little grocery store.
I made my way to the grocery store. It was night time. There were a few people lurking around. Couple teenagers dressed in goth attire were in the front. They watched me as I walked up to the door. I nodded my head once and walked inside.
I had a feeling that there were more of my kind around here. When I say my kind I mean vampires. Yep. I'm a vampire and I bet you a bag of O neg those goths out front were my kind as well.
I found the deli counter and grabbed a couple of sandwiches for Carl and a juice for myself. I started to have a bad feeling. I paid for my purchases and ran outside. Carl was no where to be found.
"Shit!" "Shit shit shit!". I yelled. I kicked a nearby trashcan with frustration. It was going to be dawn soon.
Okay I can do this. No problem. I heard someone approaching me I turned towards them. It was a guy. He was tall, dark hair, slender, wearing jeans and a blue t-shirt. He smiled at me and held his hands up in front of him.
"Hello darling. Need some help?". He asked me.
I thought about it for a minute and shrugged my shoulders. What the hell?
I smiled and said, "yes I do. Can you help me?".
He hooked his thumbs in his pockets and said, "sure thing. I can give you a lift if you need it."
I frowned for a second. "I do, but I don't have a place to stay. My friend just left me here. Hell I don't know the name of this town.".
Blue jeans shook his head and grinned. "Well this is your lucky day. I know a shelter that I could take you to. Later on I can show you around.". He held his arm out invitingly. "Come on. Truck is this way.".
I followed him to the truck and got in. Buckled my safety belt and watched him adjust the mirrors then pull out of the parking lot and onto the main Street.
"I'm Luke, "he told me as he put his hand out for me to shake.
"I'm Helen. ". I told him as I shook his hand. "Nice to meet you.". I let go and looked around.
We were passing some businesses and then a school. We came to an intersection and he made a left. Now we were heading into an industrial area of town.
"What's the name of this town?" I asked him.
"Trinity Moon," he said.
We were coming into a residential area. "The shelter is up ahead.". He said. I was needing to feed. He was looking mighty tasty.
He pulled over to the side of the road and turned the truck off. He gave me an oily smile and patted the seat next to him.
"Now how about that ride?". He sneered at me as he asked me that.
I made up my mind. The world would be a better place without this fucktard. I gave him an evil grin and crawled toward him.
"A ride?" I purred. He got a puzzled look on his face for a split second the grinned that oily grin. He went to reach for me, and I knocked his left hand away, grabbed his right in a lightning fast move and pulled him towards me with his back facing me. I let him feel my strength.
"Know what I hate about assholes like you?" I asked him as I jerked his head to the side. "You don't know how to respect a woman. Scream for me jerk." I bit down hard and fast into his neck. The blood flowed hot and sweet into my mouth. It coated my throat and tasted like warm honey. I drank and drank until I heard his heart stuttering. I pulled back, licked the wound closed and pushed him back into a sitting position.
I searched his pockets and found his wallet. I took the cash he had and his change. He had a pocket knife in his left pocket. I took that as well. I searched the rest of his truck. Found a duffel bag full of clothes. Not my best option but I did need a change of clothes. I also found a roll of shop towels. I grabbed a few and wiped my fingerprints off the truck. With luck they'll think he had a heart attack. I left the truck, tossed the towels in a nearby trashcan bin and headed to the shelter couple blocks down.
