Wolf and I struck out the next night at sunset. Lucas asked us to start looking for these rogue vampires downtown.

While we were walking downtown we took the time to catch up with each other. I hadn't seen him in about two hundred years.

We passed in front of a church and Wolf held up his hand for us to stop and be silent. I listened for a minute and heard some scuffling. I motioned for us to move in that direction. We snuck up to the edge of the side wall. I peeked around the corner. Sure enough one guy had another person on the ground and they were wrestling around.

I glanced back at Wolf and raised my eyebrows in question.

He motioned me to stay put while he went around behind them. I crouched down in my fight stance and peeked back around the corner. When I heard gasping sounds from the one on the ground I pounced.

I pounced onto the back of the one choking the other and rolled them off the other one. We rolled into the other wall which made me let go. I cursed and jumped back up onto my feet. Just then I saw a blur go past me and then gurgling sounds. Wolf had the attacker by the throat.

I glanced over at the other person. They were still and lifeless. I still reached down and checked for a pulse. Nothing. "Damn," I whispered. I walked over to where Wolf was. He was growling soft and threatening at the other guy.
I got close to them and got a good look at the guy.  Dirty clothes, dread locks in mousy brown hair, and smelled like week old trash.
I gagged for a second.  Then said in a stern voice,

"Damn son!  Didn't momma teach you to bathe and take care of yourself?".

He flinched.  Then looked at me.  I shook my head.  Damn kid.  Newbie vampire.

"Why are you killing the homeless?". I asked him.

He didn't say anything.  Wolf shook him a little.

"Answer the question." It rumbled out low in his chest.

"Ok!  This gang that I'm in.  We decided it would be fun and a sport to prey on the homeless.  Figured nobody would miss them."

"Who's your leader?". I asked.  I should've been listening harder.  Just when he opened his mouth he turned to dust.  An arrow pierced his heart.

I jumped back with a Yelp.  A second arrow zinged past my head.  I ducked down and ran down the walkway and slipped behind the building.  Crouching low I peeked around the corner.

There were too many shadows on the top of the churches and in the eves to see someone who was hiding.

"See anybody, "I asked Wolf softly.

He shook his head.  "No.  No one.  They're hiding really well."

"Someone knew we were coming. ". I told him.

He sighed.  "Yeah.  Looks that way." He glanced around for a second.  Then he turned with his front facing the wall, stuck his hand out around the corner.  Nothing happened.  He stood up.

"Whoever it was is gone now.". He held his hand out to me and pulled me to my feet.

"Well they did what they came here to do.  Tried to warn us off." I told Wolf as I looked around some more.  I turned back to him and grinned evilly.  "A hunt?". I asked.

He grinned.  "Of course.". He took off in the direction the arrow came from.  Like our nature we slipped in and out of the shadows.  After about two miles he pulled up short squatting behind a dumpster.

I knelt behind him.  I leaned as close to his ear as I could get a whispered, "what is it?". I had my senses going over time but couldn't smell or sense anything.

He put his finger up to his mouth quieting me.  Then he pointed to his ear telling me to listen.

I closed my eyes and took some deep breaths, then listened as hard as I could.  I heard some doves rustling in the eaves of the church across the way.  I listened deeper.  I heard some rodents in the bushes in front of us and that's when I picked it up.  A soft furious whisper round the corner.  It was heated and as I listened I could tell there were two people.  One had a sword.  I could smell the oil on it.  The other a cross bow.  I could hear the clink of the arrows.  Whoever they were they didn't want anyone knowing where they were.

"Why aren't they dust?" Asked the first one.

"You said scare them so I did.  I silenced the dumb one who got sloppy."

"You have no idea who she is do you?" The first one asked practically growling softly.

"No your Grace.  Who is she?".

"She is no one to trifle with!". "she was a queen once.  THE queen.  She ruled the world at one point in time.  She will rule us all again if we do not stop her."

"But your Grace, HE is with her. "

"Bah!  He is no match for me.  ".  I heard shuffling of feet then:

"Find them!  Bring them to me!"

"Yes Your Grace.".

I came back to myself shocked.  "Who was that?" I asked Wolf.

"I am not certain.". He stood up.

"Come.  Let's go back.". He picked me up then launched himself in the air.
