I follow Becky and Charlie to the lunch room. Walking a step behind them I kept my head replaying that last scene in my head. what the hell just happened? Is he taken? And did he really call me Ghost? Really? "Sssoooo," Becky starts off, "who was that?" Her voice implies that whole do-you-have-a-crush-on-him question. I roll my eyes "Connor Rillies," I answer "He's in my AP Government class. We both like Sleepy Hollow." Charlie raises her eyebrows at me obviously waiting for more. "What? I don't like him and he doesn't like me." I defended myself. "Are you sure about that?" Charlie raises her voice so we can hear her over the roar of the lunchroom. "Yes, did you not see what just happened there?" I sat down at our usual table. It's high school; everyone has their own table. "Yeah you two looked great till that slut showed up." Becky took a bit of her sub. "I mean seriously who drawls like that?" "I don't know," I say getting agitated "And how do we know she's a slut? Maybe she's his girlfriend." Both Becky and Charlie shut up. Neither one if us tried to break the silence. We just let it be.
I let the rest of the day just flow by. Whatever I didn't like him that much a anyways. We barely talk and he probably only likes me for my boobage. I mean come on. He had a hot red-head hanging on him (how cliche). He probably has tons of chicks hanging on him. I look up at the clock and wait for class to be over. Then I can just go to track practice and forget about the whole day. As my trig teacher continues on about proofs I listen for the bell. Any moment now...before my teacher can even remind us of our homework I'm out the door. I go down to the second floor. Throwing in my combo my lock comes off with a snap. I pull out my track clothes and dump everything else inside. I shut my locker and quickly turn around. Keeping my head down I weave my way through the crowd. Taking a left I travel down a much narrower, quieter hallway headed for the girl's locker room. Reaching the bottom of the last flight of stairs I saw a very familiar face looking down at me. Fuck. I duck my head lower and try to sneak away. No such luck. "Hhheeeyyyy Ghost where's the fire?" I spin around. "Oh hey..I was just head to track practice." I turn to go but Connor refuses to take the hint. "About today sorry Emilie had to interrupt." Did he just blush? Holy moley was that even possible? I blush in return "It's no problem don't worry." Connor turns his head to look at me "So where you headed? The day's done why you still here?" "I've got track practice." I hold up my knapsack containing my track clothes as proof. "Your a runner?" He raises one eyebrow in...shock? "Yes I'm a sprinter actually." Was there an edge in my voice? If so Connor goes on like he didn't catch it. "Weelllll I was gonna ask if you'd like to follow me to the nearest Timmy Hos? It's right around the block. Whattda say?" I hold up track bag once more. "Umm remember? I'm a runner. I got track." Connor blinks at me "Yeah I know, I meant afterwords." I look over at him. "Please Ghost? What do you got to lose?" He's got a point. "Alright" I give in "Its a date."
