Ariana's POV
This is it. Here I am, at Iridium High. I've been dreading this day for weeks, which only seemed to make it come quicker. I just moved in with my aunt and this is my first day of school.
My parents both died in a car accident over the summer. I became completely devastated. My mom and dad would help me with my powers and I loved them with all my heart. After the funeral, I was forced to go live with my aunt Julie after the accident. My aunt and I haven't spoken in so many years, so it's a little uncomfortable living with her.
Never mind that, I say goodbye to my aunt and climb out of her car. I take a deep breath and walk towards the doors of the high school. My nerves are making my hands shake. Stop it, Ari.
As I walk to the front doors and a motorcycle almost hits me. I turn to look at the driver who is wearing a helmet. They could've hit me!
"Watch it, dumbo!" I shout and scurry inside the building. My mouth hangs open as I take in the atmosphere. It is gigantic in here! Okay, I have to find the guidance office.
I hopelessly wonder the halls, too scared to ask anyone for directions. I start to swear as I grow more nervous. Gosh, I could not feel more awkward.
"Excuse me, do you need help?" A deep voice says from behind me. I turn around to a boy with dark hair that is styles with gel.
"Yes. I probably look like an idiot, don't I?" I sigh.
"Not at all, you just looked lost. I'm Diego, and you are?"
"My name is Ariana. I'm new here and I have no idea where the guidance office is." I laugh.
"I can take you there if you want." Diego offers. I happily accept and we both walk the halls towards the guidance office. I keep on getting stared at by countless students.
"Why is everyone staring at me?" I ask Diego, starting to feel self conscious.
"It's because you're new." Diego laughs. I smile as we stop at a door.
"Here it is, if you ever need help, just come and find me." He smiles and then walks away. I breathe in and out as I open the door. A woman with long dark hair smiles at me.
"You must be Miss Winters. I'm Miss Oliver, it's nice to finally meet you." Miss Oliver tells me take a seat and I do as I am told.
She gives me my schedule and a map of the place. She also explains all the extra curricular activities, like the swim team known as the Sharks. I was a swimmer at my old school, so that could be fun.
"I have called Emma Alonso to help you around. She should be down here any-" The door swings open and a girl with really dark hair comes into the room.
"Miss Alonso, thank you for joining us. Could you please show Miss Winters around?" Miss Oliver asks.
"Of course, Miss Oliver." Emma smiles.
"Okay, you two can go now. I hope you like Iridium High, Miss Winters." Miss Oliver waves goodbye.
"Thanks so much, Miss Oliver." I thank her and then leave the room. Emma and I walk down the hall together as everyone keeps on watching me.
"So your name is Ariana, right?" Emma asks. I nod shyly and just keep walking with her.
"What's your first class?" She asks.
"Um, Math."
"Awesome that's mine, too. We can just walk there together." Emma smiles. I'm actually starting to like this school. Now, I just have to keep my powers a secret.
