I placed my order booklet into my apron and plopped down on the chair in the back. Using the back of my hand, I wipe the sweat from my forehead and wiping it down my black pants.

"Grant, order up!" Matt called from the counter. I gave him a soft smile while he used his towel to wipe his sweat infested face. I grabbed the plate wiping the rim and taking it out front to table thirty-nine. I love the balcony serving area, Ive been working it for the last four years. Its the only area that gets the real tips.

I placed the plate down apologizing to the man for the wait. After asking if they needed anything else, I made my round. Filling up a few drinks, I was able to stand off the side enveloped with my thoughts.

"What has you troubled?" My fellow co-worker Amy asks standing beside me. "Court today has me occupied in thought" I said not completely lying. In fact, it had nothing to do with what happened in court, court was adjured, and its solely based on one person, one man.

"It amazes me how you could sit there all day long on your days off and just listen. Jurors despise going, and they get paid!" She says nudging my arm. I give her my best smile, no one here really seemed to understand my fascination with law and the courtroom.

I felt alive in there, valuable. When I walk inside the courtroom, I transform into someone strong, intelligent and a force to be reckoned with. In reality, I'm a short 54 blonde haired twenty-year-old. I was weak with little to no muscle on me.

I was cursed with a straight figure, the only type of curve I have is from my chest. I was miraculously blessed with breast, but thats the only kind of fat I have on my boney body. I could eat junk food all day and night without gaining a pound. The frustration and struggle to gain weight is real and a pain in my ass.

By the end of the night, my hair was starting to fall from its loose French braid. Little stragglers were plastered to my forehead from the sweat. Tonight, we got hit hard with a local baseball team returning home for their final game, bringing a whole crowd of people with them.

I threw my apron up on my hook, making sure all three of my pens were in the pockets along with the pad before grabbing my jacket. "Grant, you need a lift?" Matt hollered from the back door. "Please" I hollered throwing on the jacket and rushing out behind him. His car scuttled to turn on. Finally coming to life, she jerked forward and out onto the packed streets.

"Don't these people know how to go home?" I said looking in the rearview mirror as we headed in the opposite direction. "Oh, just you wait till your twenty-first, you'll answer your own question." Matt says focusing on the road.

" I dont need alcohol. I'm fine as is. I look like a twelve-year-old anyways, no one in their right mind would serve me" I say allowing my anger to come forward a little. They'll card you, dont worry about it." He said brushing it off.

I'm too busy to go to a bar, and I dont have the money to waste on alcohol. I can barely pay rent and eat. "Here you are" He says pulling along the sidewalk. "Thanks Matt" I say slipping out and rushing across the road and into the worn-down building.

If you weren't used to the smell the building held, you'd gag. The doors were originally green but have now turned a murky brown color. Shoving my key into the lock, I hurried inside locking it back up.

I flipped on the switch rushing to the bathroom. On busy nights, its hard to find a moment to pee. I was lucky to get to sit down quickly. After relieving myself, I stood in front of the mirror taking in my reflection.

My eyeliner and mascara ran in the corner of my eyes and the bags under my eyes were becoming more prominent. My earthy green/blue eyes were becoming dull. Blowing out a huff of air, I stripped down hopping into the cold water. I dont even remember the last time I had a real hot shower.

I was in long enough to clean my body and hair. Leaving the water, my body was coated in fresh goosebumps. I wrapped a towel around my body and one up in my hair. Rushing into my room, I throw on an oversize sweatshirt and sweats, completing my homeless look.

I caught a glimpse of the alarm clock which read 11:48. Brushing my teeth and rehanging the towel, I dragged myself back to my bed. If you consider the mattress laying on the floor with one pillow and heavy cover, then yes.

I grabbed my law book that laid beside my bed. As soon as I opened it up, I felt my eyes dropping low.

--- ---- ----

My alarm clock beeped at six forty-two making me want to scream out in agony. Shutting off the devil, I peeled my eyes open forcing myself to sit up, so I didnt fall back to sleep. Pushing myself up, I walked into the bathroom. Doing my routine, I walked out with my straight hair, back eyeliner and mascara.

I opened the fridge pulling out the milk and the box of Life cereal. I dumped the cereal into the bowl and finished off the milk that was already two days past due date.

Continuing my reading while I ate had my brain kicking into gear. After breakfast, I grabbed the closest jeans, bra, panties and top I could find in my room. I had a bottle of vanilla perfume I picked up at the store. I gave myself a couple spurts of it and grabbed my bookbag after throwing my books inside.

Thankfully, during my high-school years I won a few paper competitions that I won enough money to buy business outfits and a laptop. With tips, I have enough to wash my clothes, buy food, and occasionally a coffee.

I slipped the laptop down inside and rushed out of the apartment making sure to lock the door. The wind was blowing a bit merciless this morning and my jacket wasnt handling the elements like it use too. It was time to buy a winter coat.

I walked the multiple blocks before coming across the bus stop. Flashing my card, I hopped on and took my usual seat. "You're awfully quiet this morning Brynn" Tommy the bus driver said pulling forward back onto the road.

"Tired is all. How are the little ones?" I ask him seeing as there were only a few others on here and they werent paying attention to us. "They're great, growing so fast. The girls are looking more and more like their mother every day" He says shaking his head.

He pulls up at my spot and I pat his shoulder. "See you tomorrow Tommy" I say sending back a small wave and continuing my journey to class. I walked across campus and into Harlots Hall. Plopping down into my seat, I wait for everyone else to show up.

"Paper due?" Someone leaned half way into the room and shouted to me. "Yeah" I holler back to him pulling out mine. I decided to re-read it to pass time. The more I read it the more I hated it. I flipped it over and focused on something else. People started to pour in filling the seats up.

Professor Pastel dropped her items down on the table and opened a manila folder. We all made our way forward placing them down inside. She then grabbed her laser pointer and continued from where we left off last class. Two hours later and I was able to get up and stretch my small legs.

I checked my watch and rushed to the courthouse. I walked inside and dropped my book bag on the conveyor belt and walked into the scanner. Grabbing my bag, I rushed down the hallway making a few lefts and rights before running up the steps. I slipped into District Judge Luxors office making him look up at me only to look back down.
