"I am damaged. Far too damaged, but you're not beyond repair." Mukuro told Makoto, tears in the corners of her eyes. Just minutes ago, she'd pulled the trigger that had killed her twin sister. She couldn't imagine living without her, even though Junko had been a manipulator and an abuser in her life. "Stick around here, make things better, cause you beat me fair and square." She continued, talking to the love of her life Makoto Naegi. He hadn't beaten her in any kind of physical battle, but rather by what they stood for. Makoto was the embodiment of hope, and her sister who's right hand Mukuro was represented despair in human form. Hope had beaten despair, so Makoto had beaten Mukuro. He was watching on in horror, mostly at the Monokuma in her arms that was less than a minute from blowing up. She shouldn't be talking to him as far as he knew, she should be running to dispose of it then getting to safety. She was a soldier, it shouldn't be exactly impossible for her. "Please stand back now." She told him, sadness starting to cloud her eyes. He hesitantly stepped back, still watching her. "Little further. Don't know what this thing will do." She told him. He stepped even further back, and at the same time she stepped back too. He was starting to get really concerned, but it hadn't clicked what she was planning to do. "Hope you miss me. Wish you'd kiss me. Then you'd know I worship you." That was her way of confessing. She knew she wasn't going to survive the bomb inside this Monokuma exploding, and she had yet to say something to him. This was her last chance. "I'll trade my life for yours." That was what made him realise what she was doing. She was going to use this Monokuma to kill herself.
"Oh my god...!" Makoto was in pure shock. He wanted to run to her and stop her, but he felt rooted to the spot. It was like he couldn't move.
"And when I disappear," she continued, not hearing him. The ticking of the bomb blocked out a lot of his words. He could still hear her clearly.
"Wait! Hold on!" He tried to tell her, but she ignored him. Either that, or she couldn't hear him.
"Clean up the mess down here." She finished her sentence. Makoto shook his head, feeling like he was about to cry. He was scared for her.
"Not this way!" He cried desperately. He still felt like he couldn't run to her and save her. She didn't want this either, but she felt like she had to.
"Our love is god." She said suddenly, looking down at the Monokuma in her arms. Less than 30 seconds until it blew up. Even she, the soldier who feared nothing, was scared. She knew she would die here. "Our love is god." She repeated, getting louder. Makoto looked up at her, a tear falling out of his eye. "Our love is god." She told herself again, also starting to cry now. She didn't want to throw her life away like this, but it was too late to turn back now. The bomb was about to explode, and it was either her or Hope's Peak. She'd caused enough damage under Junko and Ultimate Despair, and this was the only way she could make up for that in her mind. "Our love is god." She said one final time, content with those being her last words. Makoto saw the look in her eyes. It screamed of despair, regret, remorse, and hope.
"Say hi to god." He told her tearfully, forcing himself to smile. That was what made her fall for him to begin with. She held the bear tighter, smiling as well. Makoto had never seen her smile before, so this was bittersweet. She took a deep breath as the timer hit zero and the bomb exploded. Makoto could only watch in horror as Mukuro's tortured life was snuffed out in one second. Her pain was over, but his was only just beginning.
