"Katherine!" My mother shouts from downstairs.
I jumped up from bed and grab my hidden weapon from beneath my bed and jump to my feet. I can hear running up the stairs and making it's way to my door.
"Katherine?" She says with confusion to the sight of my crossbow in hand.
"Sweetie you don't need this anymore, you're safe love." She explains with great comfort.

"Pfft, I unlike everyone else here don't believe that is true, how could something that nearly killed the entire human race just be gone?" I ask

My mother just stares at me like I'm a work in progress. I cant help but feel unease about living in a community with bitten neighbors.

"The vaccines are working and have been working for months, if something was wrong I believe it would have already happened by now . Breakfast is ready come downstairs I invited our neighbors over." She replies

"Oh mother, they are such creeps Mr."i got bit by a zombie" looks at us like he wants to rip our face off and.."

"Katherine Michelle you have said enough!" She shouts
You will come downstairs and eat with the rest of us just because he was infected doesn't mean you can be rude."

I slowly put my crossbow down, I forgot I had it in my hand. I make my way to my closet as my mother leaves my room. She didnt close the door all the way. She left a tiny crack.
"Thanks for closing the door!" I shout with annoyance.
I dont understand why I have to be down there, but if I don't go my mother would never let it go.

As I make my way to close the door I look out my window and see a dirty figure climbing our huge walls that surround the neighborhood. A shock is sent down my spine. The figure looks up.
"It a guy?" I shouted louder than I anticipated.
I guess he heard because he looked my way but I hid before he saw me.

Why in the world is he climbing in? We live right by the woods, the huge wall is right behind our house. He clearly isnt from here, he's covered in dirt and what looks like blood. I didnt think anyone lived out there anymore. Then again we aren't allowed to leave the walls, which is another reason for my suspicion that we are still in danger. I get so lost in my thoughts that I lost sight of where he was.
*tap tap *
I jump up in shock from the tapping sound on my window.

I look down and there he was.
He had deep green eyes and a tall slim body, his hair was wavy and dark brown. His skin was tan from being exposed to the constant sun. I can see is carved jawline all the way from here. He had dirt on his face and clothes. He throws another pebble to my window.
*TAP* . I still jump to the sound. I open my window and look down to where he was.

"Um excuse me but you shouldn't be throwing those or be here." I let out with annoyance. "I saw you staring at me so I thought I'd let you know I'm not here to hurt anyone, I jus- " I cut him off and say.
"Just what came through the woods and climbed our wall to be friendly and not steal anything, right?" I said rudely

A smile shoots across his face revealing his perfect dimples and teeth. "Well..I-"

"Exactly!" I shout
"My name is James, and I have been out there alone since this all began and lost everything I love and I am here to find food on which I am running low on." He explains
I can't help but feel sorry for him, I can't imagine what I would feel if I had lost my family. But that still doesn't mean I can trust him, he's practically covered in dirt and blood. Why does he have blood on himself?

"I am sorry but I still don't trust you, why didn't you come through that front gates where the security is at and ask them?" I ask
"Yes because you really think they would let an outsider like me come in and spare food." He replied with sarcasm. "I have been looking for food for week, neighborhoods like these aren't very close to each other its weeks worth of walking I was desperate to find food. But I'll leave so you dont have to call security. Who knows what they would decide to do with me If they take me." He blurted
