Ryan was nervous, it's his twenty eighth birthday and he had no mate, yet. Being a lycanthrope, he had to have a mate to become a King. His father George the third and his mother Rebecca were getting old, and the kingdom needed a new king as soon as possible.

He had worn a black formal suit and was looking magnificent. Ryan was one of those lycans who was loved by many. Even the normal werewolves loved him like their own.

There was this tiny difference between a werewolf and a lycan. Lycans had more strength and height. And they looked different too. Lycans were almost like half human and half wolf. They had a body of a human but face of a wolf. Where werewolves were just like normal wolves;they would look cute if they shifted whereas lycans would look more like a beast.

He was pacing the room in his inhuman speed, there was nothing good in this morning. He needed a mate. Anyhow, within a year, he needed his queen.

"You don't need to walk to think, it's your brain that does the work not your legs." Ryan stopped and spun on his heel. His father was standing at the door, looking amused.

"It's not funny Dad." he pouted.

George sighed, he knew how important a mate was for a lycan, "I know, but you can not just..." he took a quiet step towards his son, "see my son, I know how it feels to be a...a mate less, but you cannot just think over it and do nothing, if you don't find your mate then you have to choose a girl who can become a queen. Though I agree very rarely it happens that a lycan has no mate but again it had happened in the past so it's not like you will be the first one."

"But I have always wanted one. I always wanted to feel that what you felt when you saw Mum. I just want to feel that magic...that restlessness...that passion... and you were twenty when you found your mate but look at me I am already twenty eight..."

"Oh come on! Don't be a whiny child and be a man. Son, that magic, that restlessness, that passion...it's all because there's love. If you can't love your mate then you won't be able to feel anything. And before you ask, yes there have been cases where mates were not so fond of each other."

Ryan shook his head, he could never win a debate with this old man. He looked at his father, his father was as young as a fifty year old man who ruled for thirty years since he had found his mate but as per the rule one king would not rule if he crossed fifty. And to rule you need a queen. So if Ryan wasn't capable of finding a mate, then George would have to give his throne to someone else, and the council would decide to whom the throne would be given to.

"Let it be Son, and now come on the villagers want to meet you. It's your birthday. Who can say, maybe today is the day you are waiting for." George patted on Ryan's shoulder and went out of his room, only to be met with a lovely green eyed beauty, and those eyes were worried.

She was Rebecca, his wife, the queen. "He is worried." She mouthed. She couldn't talk aloud, as she knew Ryan would be able to hear even if she whispered, "How's he holding up?"

George smiled, "He is fine, but he needs to be practical too." He mouthed too. Even he didn't want Ryan to hear this conversation. "let's get ready for the party." He latched his arm with his wife's and went towards their room.

. . .

Ryan dutifully met with every single person who came to meet him. There were werewolves as well as humans. Villagers didn't know about him being a lycan, they just bowed down to the king and the queen and who had ruled them for ages. Even if they knew, something was seriously wrong with this family they never questioned. And they had always stuck to only one belief; for some reasons,God was on their side as they remained equally graceful over the years, be it George the third or his father George the second.
