After a long walk Henry, Jesse, Violet and Benny came to a farm house. Infront of the farm house was a huge stack of hay. The Aldens decided to sleep on it. After a piece of bread and a good morning from Jesse they went to sleep.
When it got dark the Aldens got up and started walking again. Soon they came to a water pump. As Henry pumped water the yonger 2 aldens slerped it up. As soon as they started off they heard a horse and caredge behind them. "you must not say a word"said henry as they hid behind bushes. As the horse got closser henry could see
That it was the baker and his wife. Henry could hear them talking to each other." We will look till we come to greenfield but then we will turn back" said the baker. "They have passed" said henry. "We must not go to green feild" said Jesse. As they walked down the road they came to a street sign. It said greenfeild straight, or silver city right. The children went to silver city.As they walked toward silver city they heard no one. Then out of the blew benny said "i hear something". "I do to" said violet. The children stood still and listened. "It sounds like water" they said. "I want water" benny said. They walked to ward the sound and they soon found a water fountain on the side of the road.
All the kids sdrank up lots of cold water. Then henry said "look at that side road, it leads to the forest. We can sleep there". "It is good. We will even be close to the drinking fountain," said violet. "You think of every thing," said henry. "Boy is it hot," said jesse. "That is good because we will have to sleep on the ground," said henry.
As they walked down the road they came to a perfect spot to rest. As they made there pine needle beds jesse said "i hope it does not rain tonight". They easly fell asleep and slept for a long time. As they slept more clouds roled in and it be gan to poor.
Jesse woke up and started to look for shelter. After a little while she found a old empty boxcar. As she ran back to were the rest were sleeping she thought of how good the box car would be as a home. When she got to were the rest of the kids were sleeping she woke everyone up and told them to folow her to the shelter. When they got to the boxcar she and henry opened the door and looked inside. It looked good! As they all climed in they felt good to not be getting rained on.
