Cheryl POV
"Toni.... Are you in here!"
I frantically look through the Whyte Worm for a certain pinked hair beauty. I would flirt once I find her but now is not really the time due to the circumstances.
"Cheryl, Why-"
I cut her off.
"We need to get out of here.. right now, tell Jughead to rally the Serpents, Hiram is invading this bar with his cops tonight"
"Will do" she confirms and goes to alert Jughead. Honestly, who ever thought I'd be doing this in my life, risking my life and even worse, reputation for the Serpents, I guess its the only sense of community around me, even if I don't partake, Toni does, and Toni is my only family ever since my horrid mother dropped me off at that... never mind I don't want to think about it. Thankfully, my thoughts are interrupted by Jughead's panicked voice announcing to the Serpents what I already know.
"We must leave this bar tonight, now. Take only what you need and what you can carry. I have just received word that Hiram and his minion, Minetta, will raid our home tonight, and if a few Serpents are killed, then even better."
Toni is back standing next to me now. I grip her hand tightly at the shocking thought of potentially losing her tonight, or ever for that matter.
"We have been offered refuge on the Northside, at my buddy, Archie Andrew's house. I know many of you will be suspicious but I promise you that he is here to help us, and putting us in danger would be too much trouble for him to handle, anyways. So go, pack your things and meet me outside in 3 minutes."
I resume my position next to Toni as she packs her few belongings: a shirt, a hairbrush, a toothbrush and so on. I could care less what she packs.. since the refuge is not really where she's gonna be staying after this mess after all. She looks around at the bar that once was property of the Serpents one more time and then, suddenly, we are out of the shadowy, rundown disaster of a building and into the crisp, fall air that has so pleasantly graced the Southside tonight. I see Jughead say farewell to the bar, what a strange thing to do, and after he turns around after his final glance, we start heading out on our dangerous trek towards the Northside of town. For the first few minutes, it seems as though we have made it out safely, without a trace of Hiram's footprints following us but soon a calm walk turns into a run when we hear sirens and see the terrifying sight of flashing blue and red lights. At the sight of those alarming colors, Toni's eyes wander back to me, scared and I give her a reassuring glance that everything is going to be alright.
"Cher... I'm scared, why did you even come in there anyways, they're not your family nor do you even care about them" she asks, frightened.
"You are my family and whoever is your family is mine." I respond
She blushes as the pace of the Serpents quickens and soon my hand feels as though it might break any second because of Toni's extremely tight grip but honestly I couldn't care less. The lights and are becoming more and more apparent and soon the car is right behind the back of the pack. The crowd stops, we are screwed.
"Hands Up!"I hear the commanding voice of Riverdale's own, Sheriff Minetta shout at the panicked crowd and after much deliberation, Toni's hands are no longer in mine but aimed towards the sky, I can tell she truly is scared for her life even though her much admired bad girl persona is on display. Mine also shoot straight up in the air as well, out of habit.
"All Serpents, which I presume is all of you must report back to the Sheriffs Office right now or I shoot and when I shoot, I don't aim at anything but straight in the heart, so move it. Grudgingly, the crowd begins to shift forward and out of nowhere, suddenly I hear gunshots. This is not happening I think to myself, I'm in the middle of a police shooting with Toni. Wait, where is she?My mind starts to panic as I am screaming her name into the crowd hoping somebody will return my calls or at least remind me that I am not alone, everyone is searching for somebody, right?
And then I see her, standing right over Fang's obviously wounded body, crying. My heart sinks down into my stomach and I just want to run straight to her when I am held back by Sweet Pea's annoyingly strong arms.
"Cheryl, just let it happen, please don't lose your cool, the people lost already will be grieved but you don't have to lose yours in order to mourn them."
"BUT TONI..." I scream. I can't break out of his grip, damn him. All I want to do is run to her and comfort her, get her out of here, and run away together. This night is not going to destroy that. It the only happiness in my life. She's the only thing keeping me here.
She slowly stand up over Fang's body and her tear stricken eyes meet mine. I plead with her to come back near me and we could figure this out together, but I know now, it is too late. I've been in this situation before, and I promise you, anything anybody says will not make you retreat. She gives me one last nod and mouths "I love you" before running straight into the gunfire. I can feel my whole energy and body sink to the ground with anger and grief, this cannot be happening. I see her figure as it is impacted by a bullet and falls to the ground. I don't care anymore, I run over to her and hold her hand as the gunfire stops and so does the energy from her eyes.
"TONIIIIIIIIII"
