Choni One Shots

The Kiss of Life Part 3

Cheryl POV 

The hospital reeks of bleach and broken hope when we enter. Hell, I'm sure it always smells like that, but have never been the one who experiences hope being lost, that was always saved for the... unfortunate. But now everything has been taken from me, even my girlfriend potentially, i realize I've taken that role now as I stare at Toni once more before she is rushed to the back of the hospital, where we are forbidden to go. 

Sweet Pea checks in with the front desk and briefly nods to me and my clearly emotional face and I find the secretary's glance of pity pressed against me. After checking in, Sweet Pea sits down next to me in the waiting room chairs and silently, we reflect on what just happened without even glancing towards each other. It takes about 15 minutes for either of us to say anything to each other. He finally breaks the silence with the words that my ears have been dreading for the past half hour.

"Well, we have to discuss what happened, silence isn't going to make things any better." 

"Why do we have to talk about it? How is it not hurting you this much, both of your best friends are shot and could be dying and you are more worried about silence. Sometimes I doubt you even care about anything." I blurt out. I know it was stupid and a complete lie but anger has always helped me cope with everything so why not this. 

Sweets sinks back into his chair and we ignore each other for the rest of the wait. Finally our silence is broken once more by Doctor Masters who says the words I've been anxious to hear since the riot. 

"Is anyone here family of Fangs Fogarty and Toni Topaz" He announces to the anxious crowd of people in the waiting room. Sweet Pea and I stand up and walk towards him, our hearts racing faster than ever before. 

"I'm her girlfriend" I fire back, perhaps I little louder than I should've because I turn around and everyone is staring back at me, pitifully. 

"And I'm his best friend" Sweet Pea creeps up right behind me, his voice shaking. 

"Well, I have some good news and bad news for both of you." He first turns to Sweet Pea. "Fangs, if that is his real name, is going to be ok. The bullet barely skimmed him, it seems shock caused his unconsciousness and he should be out of here by the end of the night. " 

I see Sweet Pea exhale with more relief than I realized he was capable of

"But, he may never fully recover mentally from the shock inflicted on him, although there is always the chance he will be completely stable within a few days." Sweets's expression doesn't change, I doubt mine would've either, the stakes are actually pretty low for Fangs, fortunately. I see the doctor turn to me and my heart kicks up the speed. 

"More tragically, Ms. Topaz was shot right in the chest. She is in surgery right now and it seems as though we have gotten the bullet out without much difficulty. The bullet missed all of her major organs and thankfully she should recover but it could take 3 or 4 days before we can release her. You should be able to visit her in the next few hours or so."

I sigh, relieved and happily sit down back in my chair, I guess happily is not the word I'm looking for, I guess eternally thankful is a better substitute. 

The next few hours are the most nervous hours of my life, complete with pacing and talking to myself until I hear the sentence that has been repeating in my head. 

"Ms. Topaz is ready for visitation."

I think the last part of this first story will be the next part, but in order to continue this "book" which I think it will become, I need comments because I've had ideas but I need more for sure. If theres anything you would like to have written related to Choni, comment! It could be my next one-shot/ however many parts I feel like are needed to complete.
