"..so, have you met any cute boys yet? "
of. fucking. course.
That's the no. 1 question you have got to ask a friend who just moved in literally an hour ago...
" In case you've forgotten, I'm only here cause my dad has been transferred to another branch and mom thought it was such a GREAT idea to come live with him wher-"
" Calm down. You sound like you're entirely against it when in fact you're obviously rotting in that oldass apartment yours and may I add how you were trying to escape from that "hellpit" of a school a week ago."
" Shut up, that apartment was hella cozy."
" My point still stands, Jennifer."
Ahh yes.
This rat right here is Im Nayeon for you. A.k.a the only person (aside from my parents, of course) who I let myself lose to in arguments like this. You see, inside the school premises, I sort of have quite a reputation to maintain.
And no, it's not just one of those typical "badass" or "bitchy" characters- on fine days, i get to be the two at the same time. best of both worlds.
Back to Nayeon,
if only I hadn't known her since we were practically babies, I would've ended the call then and there, though, I'd surely receive a shit ton of messages right after.I sighed for the nth time that day, making it obvious that I was getting tired of the conversation.
" C'mon Jen, it can't be that bad. Have you tried walking around? You might as well make some new friends...well,before you actually scare them away." Nayeon grumbled the last part in low but still audible voice.
" I heard that." I spat.
"I haven't even finished unpacking, and you of all people should know that I don't mingle with strangers."
" No offense, Jennie, I love you but you literally have no other friends to hang out with."
" I have you."
" And when I'm gone..?"
" Well. Fuck friends, I'm basically the best friend I could ever have."
Lie. I do admit I shut people out hence me becoming a loner, and I'm not happy about that, one tiny bit.
But that's me, I've got serious social issues, what about it.
"Honey, that ain't healthy."
I groaned in return.
She's right." Fine. But know that I'll do it just 'cause you told me to." I gave in, trying to sound as convincing as possible.
" Whatever floats your boat Jendeukie." She replied half singing.
We said our goodbyes and I went straight to unpack the rest of my belongings and organize them in the most aesthetic way possible.
It took me an hour and a half to finish. I plopped down on my bean bag and thought about finally going out when all of a sudden, I heard my name being called out from downstairs.
"WHAT NOW, MOM?" I answered, annoyed.
" Don't give me that attitude miss! Get your ass useful and buy us something to drink. I heard there's a nearby grocery store just a few blocks away. "
I descended the stairs so I could hear her better.
"Whyyy does it have to be me?" I tried to argue.
" Greg isn't home yet. Stop being lazy and go fetch us some wine." She answered.
Greg is my step father. My real dad passed away when I was nine. It was painful, the way we lost him. He was supposed to surprise mom with a cake and a bouquet of flowers for their 8th anniversary when a bunch of burglers went in the store he was in. We learnt from the police that he tried to fight the man who was threatening to shoot the clerk but ended up the one being shot instead. It was indeed tragic.
Mom and I grieved for years, until the day she met Greg in New Zealand and began to slowly move on from the incident. I did too, seeing how she was once again being happy. She remarried when I turned 18, with my permission, of course,
and it kind of got better from there." Wine? Is there some special occasion I'm missing out on?" I asked, curious as to why she chose to buy liquor.
" Oh! I forgot, you were asleep when they came over. You must've been tired from the ride. Anyway, the neighbors had invited us over for dinner. Isn't that nice! They're doing us a favor." She informed, making me a bit surprised.
" They're doing YOU a favor, mom, not us. You accepted because you thought you would not have to cook for us tonight. "
" I wouldn't deny that. But it would be rude if a just blatantly rejected the invitation. They were being hospitable. I had to accept. "
I sighed and grabbed the money on the countertop.
" Alright. Alright. I wanted to get some air anyway." I said while heading out the front door.
"Well that's a first."
" I HEARD THAT!" I replied before completely letting myself out.
