When I woke up, I was back in my cell.  Sydney was asleep on the one small cot, and I was on the floor with a blanket over me.  I sat up and pain shot through my head.  It felt like someone had bashed my head with a hammer.  I tried to stand, but I was too dizzy.  I ended up just squatting on my knees.  Sydney began to stir, and she slowly opened her eyes.  As soon as she saw me, she leaped at me and wrapped me in a huge hug.

"Are you ok?  What did they do to you?  I was so worried."

"I'm fine," I said, although my tone wasn't reassuring.  "They just gave me some kind of shot.."  I trailed off, unable to remember what happened after that.  I scratched the back of my head and winced as I rubbed a huge knot.  How did that get there?

You were strong.

I looked around for a minute, then I realized what that was.  Samuel was still sitting on the floor looking at me.  It was almost as if he hadn't moved at all.

I can see what happened.  You fought the serum and won.  They are afraid of you; they do not know the full capacity of your powers and it worries them.  I can look deeper if you wish; maybe I can find some answers for you.

As he spoke in my mind, I slowly had images appear from what had happened.  How did I do that?

"Sure.  Anything will help at this point."

Alright.

Samuel closed his eyes for concentration.  I could feel him poking through my brain like an old filing cabinet.  The more he looked, the more woozy I became.  I could see sweat dripping from his forehead; he was expending a lot of energy.  Suddenly, his eyes shot open.  For the first time since I'd been here, he showed emotion: pure terror.

"What did you find?" I asked.  "Anything that will give me some answers?"

I'm sorry.  I am so, so sorry.

"What's wrong?  What did you find?" asked Sydney.  She was as curious as I was.

Bryson, I cannot tell you what I found.

"Why not?" I was beginning to get irritated.

There are some things that the human mind cannot handle.  If I were to tell you what I found, the shock alone would destroy you.  The only way for you to know is to discover it yourself.  Anyone else telling you could literally drive you mad.

"What could be so bad? I mean, why can't you just tell me?  I can handle it."

Bryson, some things should just be left unsaid.  Trust me, it's for your own good.  Oh no.

"What's wrong?"  All the color had drained from his face.

They know my secrets.  They figured out my powers; I can feel it.  They have decided I'm not strong enough.  Bryson, they're coming to kill me.

************

Two guards came walking down the corridor.  They were coming straight for Samuel's cell.  They reached it and opened the door, grabbing Sam by the wrists.  The dragged him into the hall and started leading him away>

"Leave him alone!" I shouted, beginning to tear up.  "Don't hurt him!"

One of the guards looked back and actually had the audacity to smile.  These men were heartless, ruthless devils.

Bryson, it's ok.  I've been here for three years; it was bound to happen eventually.  In a way, it will be a relief.  I can finally be free of this torture.  You have to be strong; they will try and use Sydney against you.  Don't let them win.  I've seen you, the you that is hidden somewhere deep within yourself.  You are strong Bryson.  You can beat them.  I can't tell you what I saw in your mind, but I can tell you this: you have not even scratched the surface of your powers.  You are capable to do so much more than you know.  The time when you unlock these powers is near, you just have to be strong until then.  Thank you for letting me see in you and see that there is hope.  We will stand strong, all of us here.  Goodbye Bryson.  May we meet again in another world.

They pulled him through a door, closed it, and he was gone.
