Jack and I worked on our project in my room for a few hours before deciding to take a break to get a snack.

We grab chairs at the table in the kitchen and Jacks pops a popcorn in his mouth.

"So what's up with you? You got a boyfriend? Who do you hangout with? Spill the tea sis," He says, smirking.

I roll my eyes, giggling a bit. "No, I don't have a boyfriend. I hang out with Madison, Ronnie and a couple others."

"Oh, so you're POPULAR popular," He chuckles. "Figures, a pretty girl like you."

"Thanks, but I wouldn't consider myself popular. I get along with everyone as long as we have mutual respect for each other."

"I can see that, you almost cussed me out earlier. You scared me into actually working on this project. I never work on school projects with people."

"Usually people are scared of you, Jack," I pause. "But that 'I'm A BaD BOy OuTCaSt' sh*t doesn't phase me . What's up with that anyway?"

He's silent for a minute, avoiding eye contact.

My eyes widen, realizing this must be a sensitive topic.

"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said that. You don't have to tell me if you don't want t—."

"It's my mom," He interrupts. "It's the only way I know how to get her attention. She only seems to be interested in me when I get in trouble. She couldn't take care of me when she had me, so I've lived with my Grandma all my life. But when she does come around, she's emotionless when it comes to me actually doing good."

Jack's eyes begin to water, so I grab his hand.

"That's f*cked up, Jack. I'm so sorry you are going through this."

Jack nods, wiping his eyes. "I'm so happy to get that off my chest,"

"You're not alone anymore Jack. I'll help you through this. But we have to start with you doing better in school. You can't let your Mom drag you down like this, the people in your life should be uplifting you."

Jack gives me a defeated smile. "You're right, I think I'm gonna have a talk with her. You know you're the first person to ever really try to get to know me?"

I smile and shake my head. "People have tried Jack, they're just intimidated by you,"

He looks at me, biting his lip. "And you're not, huh? I already thought you were attractive but you aren't a follower and that makes you even more sexy."

My eyes widen and my cheeks heat up. "You—uh, I-I'm sorry what?"

He chuckles, leaning in. "You shoulda saw this coming."

And before I can say anything, his lips are on mine.
