We're ready, prepared. As I stand in front of our school gates I look down our line. On my left is Isola and Verity. They are both Powershifters. They can read minds and see the future. They are very telepathic. They can also grab a hold of people from a distance and this regularly proves its usefulness.
On my right is Steve and Garsen. Steve is a fire manipulator. He finds it from within, he was born with it. I haven't seen too much of his skill, because it's a little dangerous for me to get too close but what I have seen is impressive.
As I focus my vision on Garsen I'm surprised to see him a boy. I would've thought he would have changed by now. Garsen is a werewolf, though he is very lucky as he is a rarity. He can control his transformations. As I look down at my belt to check my stabbing knife is there and look up again I see Garsen as a wolf. His transformations are getting faster.
I look above into the sky to see the pixie twins Esta and Jade. They're so delicate and innocent, there's no way they could be violent. Well, their kind of violent is when Esta smacks Garsen for being naughty especially when he's being cheeky, and this is very often. As I check behind me I see that Kiki and Sky are gone.
"They must already be there" I thought. They went to collect all the students and staff inside, into the stadium. Sky is a shift shaper and can transform into any shape she wants. She's not a very violent person though quite similar to Esta and Jade.
Kiki has super strength. This doesn't only mean her muscles but her mind too. Kiki can be a bit violent, when it comes to things like punch-ups, but she is still adjusting to more gruesome types of violence.
Then there's me a "normal" person, a human in other words I'm boring. Plain. Uninteresting. My friends disagree but they don't know what it's like having friends so amazing with spectacular abilities for me to be there and not able to do anything. I just wish I could do something. But I'm only human.
"Watch out they're coming!" cried out Esta.
"There seems to be quite a lot" exclaimed Jade in bewilderment. Suddenly I can see them. The evil ones. They resemble the shapes of people but appear to have been burnt alive and then covered in icky tar. It's a sore sight for any eyes. Jade's right there seems to be many around thirty. Though I know that doesn't sound like very many, to me it is. Any creatures seem intimidating to me, the others don't seem to be as fazed, but I'm scared. We've never battled this many before.
Around me I can sense the others preparing for attack position so I take a few steps forward. Although all my friends are excellent fighters most of them in our firing line have attack better from a distance. It's only Garsen and I who do the close combat fighting. The evil things are getting closer and I can feel their presence. Even though they have no souls, it's obvious that they did at some point which brings child down my spine.
The first few are about ten metres away. Anxiously I await Verity's signal in attack stance. She's our leader and is waiting for just the right moment. With a whoosh I see a pale blue almost transparent ball. It's impossible to see if you don't know what you're looking for.
In an instant everyone leaps into action.
I turn so I'm facing Verity this way I can do a high, hard hitch kick. I watch as the first attacking evil creature falls backwards knocking down 2 other creatures. These things may be evil and ready to kill but man are they clumsy. Before I have a chance to bring my leg back to the ground another evil one is on my right. I do a turning backwards kick which, knocks his "head off". It falls before slowly evaporating.
I stare for a second. They've never done that before. I stare at the rest of the same creature. Amazed I see it evaporating too, melting down into a disgusting puddle of tarry ickiness. I'm brought back to attention as Garsen yells "Alice!" at me.
