Nowadays, everyone has technology. Technology is a huge part of our everyday lives, but should it?
I don't think it should because it distracts society from what is happening and lowering self esteem. Most teenagers today have social media, in which they spend a lot of time browsing through photos and comparing themselves to those people in the photos. Social media's like Instagram and YouTube are lowering self esteem and creating anxiety on the future men and women of our society.
I know this because I used to have social media and it affected me in the worst ways possible. I was constantly comparing my life with other people's and it resulted in depression.
For a while now, I've been completely off my phone. I've been noticing events and patterns across my high school that I never even noticed before. Everyone's always on their phone!
I'll see students at my school walking down the hallways with earbuds in, looking down at their device and almost running into other students. I see it every day.
We're so consumed by technology that we constantly have to have it, we 'need' it. We shouldn't but as a society, we do. Even babies at the grocery store 'need' technology.
Technology is addicting, time-consuming, and harmful to everyone. I know people who are on social media five hours a day and it's not healthy. They can never seem to put down their phone for more than seconds at a time and it's sad.
In class, there's always a group of students on their phones who pay no attention to what the teacher is saying.
So, I challenge everyone who is reading this to try a week without their phone. It's not as hard as it seems and I think it'll give you a new view on your life.
Don't let technology consume who you are. Don't let it take over. In the end, you should be the one with the control, not your device, not your 'followers,' and definitely not the amount of likes on your newly posted tweet.
