Warnings: language, mentions of alcoholism, slight anxiety/panic mention
Moving to Japan was not an easy decision. All you knew was that you needed to get away from everything. You took all the money you had saved up from working full time for 2 years and finally decided to get the hell out. Your mother was an alcoholic and your father was god knows where. You didn't care though. You couldn't. Every time you tried it would just come back and bite you in the ass.
You sighed and tried not to think of all those things, choosing instead to look outside at the setting sun. You were almost to your destination. This airplane ride had been a pain in the ass and you were ready to get it over with. The guy next to you was snoring so loud throughout the whole trip that not even your headphones could drown it out. But you weren't about to let something as petty as that ruin your mood.
This was your chance to start a new life. In a new country. Away from all the people who hurt you. You were excited, but you'd be lying if you said you weren't at least a little bit terrified. You knew enough Japanese to get by, but it had been so long since you took classes for it that you were a bit rusty. And it's not exactly like you had anyone to practice your skills with.
Your thoughts were abruptly cut off as the pilots voice came over the intercom, saying to prepare for landing. You grinned to yourself, anxious to start anew.

Everyone filed off the plane after grabbing their carry on bags, trudging groggily through the terminal. You rubbed your eyes and yawned, feeling the exhaustion of such a long flight finally take hold of you. It was the first time you had ever flown alone somewhere and you were quite proud of yourself for making it this far. However, your stomach rumbling reminded you that you hadn't eaten in over a day and you promised yourself to grab a bite when you got your luggage.
Forcing your heavy legs to move forward despite your fatigue, you finally made it to the baggage claim area. You let another yawn slip past your lips as you waited for your bags. More and more people were collecting their things, and soon you were the only one left from your flight. Irritation started to settle in. Where the hell are my things? You thought to yourself, letting the hunger and lethargy get the best of you. You waited for another 20 minutes before you decided to give up and talk to someone in customs.
"Hello," you mustered up the best Japanese you could, no matter how broken it was. "My bags not come in from plane," you tried your best to explain "I have confused?" The lady at the desk looked at you with a mix of endearment and pity and tried her best to enunciate her words for you.
"What is your name?" She said, trying to speak as clearly as possible.
You gave her your name and some other necessary information as best as you could with the slight language barrier, but thankfully she was patient with you. After some time, you saw her knit her eyebrows together in confusion and she got another desk worker to come look at the screen. He also looked confused and they both started speaking rapidly back and forth. Suddenly the kind lady looked up at you with what seemed to you like concern, but it flashed across her face so quickly you couldn't be sure.
"I'm sorry but there's been a problem in the system. Can you please have a seat over there and wait for a while?" You groaned internally but nodded and thanked her for her help.
Taking a seat near the help desk, you started to bounce your leg subconsciously. Nerves were starting to get the better of you and it didn't help that your luggage was basically lost. You tried not to panic and looked around the airport for something to distract yourself with. You looked at your carry on items and assessed what you could do to busy your anxious mind.
Your carry on bag consisted of some basic necessities like a toothbrush and some toothpaste, a hairbrush, soap, shampoo, a change of clothes, and your song journal. You also had your trusty ukulele, although you didn't feel comfortable playing it out in public like this. You instead decided to write a song about your predicament.
Why am I stuck in the airport
Waiting for all of my bags
Why am I stuck feeling so bored
Life is always such a dragYou laughed to yourself about the lyrics and closed the book for now, promising to write a tune for it later. Speaking of promises to yourself, you said you would buy some food. Unfortunately, your wallet and all of your other important belongings are in your main luggage. The luggage that's lost right now. This time, you groaned out loud, slumping back into your seat feeling deflated. What else could go wrong today?
Slowly, you feel yourself starting to drift off as you sit there, so you decide to at least make yourself comfortable while you wait. It's already been almost an hour since they told you to sit here. Laying your head down on your bag, you feel yourself shift in and out of consciousness, eventually falling into an empty sleep.

When you wake up again, it's to a loud voice, yelling in your face so rapidly that your foggy mind can hardly process his words. When you open your weary eyes, you see that a man, probably in his 50s, is waving around in front of your face and shouting something while motioning for you to get up. Slowly, you move to sit up, trying to wipe the sleep from your eyes. As your mind starts to clear a bit more, you catch some of his words.
"You have to leave... can't stay here... no sleeping on the... I'll have you... if you don't..." you try to process everything he's saying, but it's not until he roughly grabs your arm and starts to lead you to the door that you realize what's happening. Luckily you had just enough time to grab your ukulele and carry on before he shoved you out the door. He doesn't even give you time to explain yourself before you're locked out and can't get back in.
Why is this happening? I need my luggage! I need it to survive! I'll die out here if I don't have it! Who even was that jerk?
It is now that you start to really panic. What will you do? You steel yourself and decide that all you can do is move forward. No time to get flustered. So you set out and try to find your way.
