Kyra Emily Thomson was driving down the freeway in her dads' old Carola. She didn't want to be unsafe, but she really couldn't be late for her first day of 11th grade at a new school. The road, wet from the rainfall the night before, was quite slippery, and the overcast sky made it quite dark out. Kyra was going 50kphs when she felt the back tires lose traction the first time, and she silently cursed the wet road. A sharp turn in the road left Kyra sliding to a nearby tree, and she let out a horrified scream. Turning as hard as she could, she decided that if she survived, she could risk being late to class. Kyra squeezed her eyes closed, waiting for the crash, the pain, the darkness. But it never came, and she realised, she did it, she stopped the car in time. She was alive! After this Kyra drove slowly to her high-school, knowing full well she would be almost a half hour late. When Kyra was almost at the entry of the school, she reached an intersection and waited at the stop sign. when she decided it was safe to go, she slowly started crossing, when she saw a sudden flash of black, and everything seemed to slow down. It was a car. Coming towards her. Fast. She survived before, and she silently prayed to God that she would again. Before she had time to think, get out of the way, or even prepare for impact, everything sped up again, and Kyra felt her car get smashed off the road.
Kyra could taste blood in her throat, she felt her ribs crush into her lungs, she heard a deafening snap and she knew instantly that her neck was broken. Then everything went black. She could faintly hear screaming, which she guessed was coming from anyone at the school who saw the incident. After a few minuted of muffled yelling, Kyra could hear an ambulance siren, and she knew this was a lot worse than it seemed. Then it all stopped. The sounds, the shadows, the feelings and thoughts.
