It all started at a meeting that my band was called into. It was apparently urgent. I couldn't help but think the worst. Ryan - my bassist, Jack - the lead / rhythm guitarist and Tom - our drummer filed into the room behind me. We were sat at a big oval shaped table, in chairs that were so comfy compared to the usual uncomfortable plastic ones. Papers were everywhere. Suited business men walked around as they waited for our manager - John to turn up.
Questions filtered my mind. Were our label firing us? Had we broken a piece of expensive equipment at our last venue? Were we being sued? No... I'm not a pessimist, I'm actually very optimistic but when it comes to my career, things become very serious. After all, it was my dream.
I drummed my hands on the table, waiting in patience as my heart beat hastened, just at the thought of things. I turned around as I heard footsteps approaching in the hallway. John appeared at the door. His smile brightened the dull vibe to the room as we prepared for the worst. He pulled a hand through his short blonde hair as he pulled up a chair beside Jack.
I breathed in slowly sitting forward, making eye contact with Ryan briefly. I could tell that he was petrified too. Sure it's not the worst situation ever but it's still pretty daunting when you're actually sat their with suspense killing.
A balding man in a perfectly tailored suit stood before us, silencing the quiet chatter that sustained my calmness. He leaned his hands against the table looking to the ground. He started pacing the floor in front of us as he tried to begin.
He stopped suddenly, a few feet away from me. "Natasha Valentine?... That's your name right?" he asked making serious eye contact.
I sat back against my chair becoming slightly uncomfortable by his stare "That's right" I answered anxiously.
"You and your band mates make up the band 'No Tomorrow' Am I right?" He asked walking away, gripping his hands behind his back.
I looked over to Tom and Jack "Correct" I admitted, wishing he'd just hurry up to the point.
"Okay..." He started, scratching his forehead, "You may be familiar with a tour called Warped Tour?"
Ryan nodded, "It's always something we've wanted to do" he whispered, taking the attention away from just me. And I'm glad he did.
"Well, we've had many many requests for your band to feature on this tour" he began pacing back and forth again "And we would love it if you accepted, but the reason we brought you here today is because we want you to headline all 60 dates. This will carry on over 3 months, covering every state in the US, Would you be willing to do this?" he asked finally
I looked at my band mates and their faces were pictures, they nodded happily "We'd love to" I answered, giving a sigh of relief. I really should start having more confidence in this band.
He smiled handing us all papers "Sign these and it will be official"
My eyes traced the many words of the contract, and when all seemed well I scrawled "Natasha Valentine" on the line provided.
The papers were handed in and our manager pushed us out of the room so he could arrange financial issues and design the line up poster.
I closed the door behind us and stared at my band mates in amazement.
"What just happened?" I breathed in a daze.
"WE JUST GOT INTO WARPED!" Jack yelled, jumping up and down excitedly.
I smiled so much that my cheek burned oddly. We formed a group hug which turned into a bit of a play fight leaving me sat on the cold tiled floor.
"Not funny." I scowled at Ryan who put me there.
