Watching kids run around me in their halloween costumes, I realised accepting Mase's dare wasnt one of my best decisions. Silently cursing my challenging nature, I walked further into darkness.

Haunted house, people here call it. The first time I heard that name was an year ago when I was new to this town. A week after our shift, needing some time for myself, I wandered around. Thats when I saw it.

As soon as my eyes landed on this specific beauty, my breath hitched. A perfectly architectured Italian mansion stood infront of me, away from noise of the town. Sure, it saw better days but no one can miss the fine architectural details even amongst surface roughness. In simple words it was magnificient and held a mysterious aura which unconciously drew me towards it.

An old lady almost in her seventies, pale as ghost stopped me from entering the mansion. She said something about it being haunted. Even though I dint believe her, I dint enter the building since it was already late and my mother would be worrying. I returned home, leaving the task of exploring this beauty for another day.

One day during lunch, I mentioned about it to my friends and watched them panic. They repeated same thing that old lady said. After that we never talked about it. Their stories creeped me out a bit but mostly they added to its mysterious allure.

Two days back, during a game of truth and dare, my friend Mase dared me to spend the night of Halloween in that mansion. They always thought my interest in that mansiom was all an act. I dint even think twice about accepting his dare because I was waiting for a chance to visit that place for awhile now.

Now, with Jack-o-lanterns illuminating the night sky and big smiles illuminating faces of kids carrying candies from trick or treat, I questioned the wisdom of my decision. I always planned on visiting the mansion, but that was supposed to happen during daytime not night. The house may not be haunted but its empty for sure, housing a variety of night creatures, snakes crawling, spiders hanging.

I dont think now is the best time to think about such things.

Soon, I reached the mansion. Moon light illuminated the contours of house making it look even more beautiful and dangerous. I walked along foyer leading to the mansion with cautious steps trying not to disturb any sleeping creatures hidden in the darkness.

Standing in front of big door of the mansion,I was shocked to find it unlocked.

I had to use all my strength to push open this heavy door which opened making small sound. As I entered the mansion, darkness welcomed me.

Door behind me closed with a loud bang making me jump in my place. I turned around to find completely closed. With slight tremor in hands, I tried to open the door but it wouldnt budge making me panic further.

Even with blood pounding in my ears, I could here movement upstairs making my already panicky heart go haywire. Wasnt this place was supposed to be empty? What if some homeless guy took shelter here? Why dint I think about this possibility earlier?

Sound of feet shuffling seemed to get closer as I fiddled with my back pack to find my pocket knife but instead I found a torch. I immediately grabbed it and turned on the light.

There at the centre of light from my torch, stood sillhoute of young women. A loud scream left my lips and I immediately jumped back with fear. I dint even realise I lost grip on my torch untill the lady bent down to retrieve it. I pushed myself further into the door praying it to open.

"Hey relax, power will be back anytime now," she said in a polished accent. Even before her sentence completed, lights in the mansion came to life. A chandelier at the centre of room brightened whole place making my jaw drop in awe. All earlier fear forgotten, my gaze kept wandering all over the beauty surrounding me.
