I breathe out and see fog. It slaps my face as I walk into it but I barely feel a difference. Maybe there's people. I haven't paid attention enough to notice. It's not cold enough that I freeze, I have my jacket. It's a bright red winter coat. As I walk in I feel the warm air on my face.
This is my favorite store. I smell that familiar smell, it smells like home. More home than home. The cashier have a blank emtpy expression. You'd think that I would know them by now. No, I've made it my goal to not say a single word to the cashier ever. I walk in and begin by looking at the fantasy section. I begin scanning the books, nothing I haven't seen already. But on the last row I find a book without a name. I haven't seen this one so I pull it out. It's a nameless book with a leather casing. I flip through the pages but they're empty.
I slam it on the table in front of the cashier. Maybe they're looking at me, it's hard to tell with that empty facial expression. I'm not looking at them though. They pick up the book and try to scan it. There's nothing to scan. There's no barcode. It seems like they are shouting. Although I'm not listening so I don't know what they're saying. Another expressionless person pick up the book but fail to figure out where the barcode is. They take it where customers are not allowed. I hear talking that turns into arguing. One of them come back out with the book in hand.
They say something, type something and numbers light up on the little cardeating machine. I take my papers with faces and throw it at the cashier. Then I take my leather book and walk home.
A woman in a bright red coat walk in. Oh no it's her. She walks to the fantasy aile. If I'm lucky she doesn't stay for too long. She's walking towards me. She slams a book on the counter, ow my ears. This one don't have a title. To be honest I don't recognize it and it doesn't have a title. Oh there seems to be no barcode on it. Well I guess I have to ask Diana for help.
- Dia come help me with this customer
She sweeps back her hair as she strolls calmy here. Her delicate hands picking up the book an her beautiful dark brown eyes observe it. Her eyebrows become raised when she look at it. She too doesn't seem to know what's up with this book but she'll surely figure it out. She takes it back to the employee room. Where James is at. Her boyfriend.
- James what is this book and how much does it cost
- Isn't there a barcode.
- No, wouldn't have asked you if there was.
- Well just give it a price then
- We can't just decide the price that's what the owner does
-So what
- What if he founds out that we sold a book for a cheaper price than she bought it for! We'll be fired! Don't you have the number to her, can't you just call her.
- No I'm not going to call her! It's her fault that she didn't put a barcode on this book! Besides why would it matter if she lost some money on this book!? She already earn way too much. I think that we should just put whatever price on this stupid book and sell it to the customer!
- No! You it's not just "whatever", you say these things like they don't add up..
- oh here we go again, you know what. Screw arguing.
James takes the book out of Dianas hands and put it on the counter. He writes in 49 dollars.
- sorry that you had to wait so long, I'm truly sorry.
The woman in the red coat throws cash at James and walks away with the book.
- ...
I start breaking out in laughter. Diana still, angry drag James back and they start arguing again.
Only seeing with the light of a candle I open my newly purchased book. Because it's empty I assume you're supposed to write your own story. I grab a pen and write a T.
I'm bored, writing is hard. I close the book. The front cover of it starts moving. The leather is stretching like slime and floating upwards.
