Chapter Two: A Man From A Necklace

Kate

Once we arrived at school, the twins scram out of the car and I lazily evacuated the vehicle. I stare at the boys and spoke in an excited whisper-yell, “looks like i’m going to be your neighbor!” They just smirked at one another.

“Why are you smiling at one another like that?” I asked the boys. Alton stood at 6’1 with fierce red hair with emerald green eyes and Adam sprouted a half-inch further than Alton with the same fierced red hair and emerald eyes.

I barely stood at the height
of 5’3 with dark chocolate brunette hair and turquoise eyes.

“RAYLEE!” Kate BAker screams from the other side of the parking lot.

“KATE!” I shouted pushing and running to get to my best friend. I embraced her in a tight bear hug.

“How Sof?” She immediately asks me.

“Good.” I replied quickly to her question.

“Ring, ring.” The warning bell rings vociferously.

“See you later.” Kate Voice echoed as she walked off and I stride to my first period in the opposite direction.

Lunch

Once I got to lunch, I spotted Laurine, Brent, Alton, and Adam sitting at the usual table. Laurine was making out with Brent, gross. I sat down next to Adam, sitting
my salad down.

“Hey guys. Laurine?” I say to my group of friends and tried to get my sister’s attention.. Which did not work.

"Larine.” I calmly repeated again which went un-bothered again.
“LAURINE!” I raised my voice to the point it go her attention, which she gave me a hard glare.

“WHAT! Can’t you see i’m in the middle of something.” She practically roars at me.

“Obviously. Sofia and I are no longer going to be living with you and mom. We are moving into dad's.” I told her.

“Good.” Laurine sheers.

“Wow.” Kate says harshly then continues as she sits down. “Why don’t you run off
then.”

Laurine huffs and grasp Brent then strides away from the table to the other side of the cafeteria.

“Why do you let Laurine get away with the unpleasant words she says to you.” Kate speaks out to me.

“She is still grieving over the loss of her grandmother, Kate. I owe her time to recuperate.” I tell my best friend.

“Oh, please, your grandmother been gone for five months. Laurine needs to get over it.” Kate speaks harshly about the topic.

“Not everyone can move on from a death in the family, Kate!” I shout at her from being so unheeding and doctrinaire.

“So you are taking the hellion’s side!” Kate hurt and angry at me.

“I’m taking my side!” I pick up my backpack and leave the table. Everyone is watching me including Laurine. I catch a glimpse of guilt and hurt. I head towards my next class, U.S. History.
