At the end of every year whether for better or worse, we have the worldwide holiday...Christmas. Mei and her mom had decided to go out, peruse the stores, walk around the town seeing the festivity and they booked a table so they could have dinner.

"Mei, aren't the lights just lovely!" her mother excitedly exclaimed while looking around at all the extravagant lights. Mei looks around and her eyes are met with various lights causing such a beautiful sight.

Truth be told, Mei was a little disappointed since Yamato had made plans with her then cancelled.

But now her disappointed was slowly disintegrating as she was getting caught up in the festive mood along with the other people, perhaps this Christmas won't be so bad at all.

After walking around and seeing the sights, her mom abruptly stopped and hit her hands together.

"That's it! I remember one of my co-workers were telling me, they are going to light the tree tonight" Suddenly after the brief explanation, Mei's arm was violently tugged as she was dragged to the location of the giant tree.

Eventually they arrive at the sight, many people currently surround the tree but somehow were nice enough to allow them to go to the front. Waiting with bated breath, the tree begins to illuminate, creating a beautiful, almost unbelievable illusion of brightened snow as the tree now shines brightly, lighting the whole park.

"It's amazing" Mei mutters absentmindedly as her mom looks at her, with a small and relieved smile.

"The tree is beautiful" Kai mutters as he stands looking up at the grand display before him, looking down. He catches a quick glimpse of something familiar. But he dismisses it, as he wasn't able to see it clearly and it could just be the snow.

Mei shivers slightly, she didn't bring a scarf unfortunately, they were in such a rush to just get out she forgot most of her things at home.

Kai begins moving to the other side, when he spots the familiar face again...

"Mei"

Smiling and walking over, he stops close enough to be heard.

"Merry Christmas" Kai says in a soft tone as to not alarm them

Mei turns around...

"Kai"

Her mom looks at the boy with slight surprise, she hasn't ever seen him.

Following brief introductions her mom says she needs to get something, essentially scooting Mei away and leaving her with Kai.

Following the flow of people, Kai and Mei walk together around the park, seeing all the little Christmas stalls set up, stopping suddenly, Mei buys two cups of hot chocolate for them to share and hopefully make her feel a little warmer.

They find an unoccupied bench and sit down, while they just people watch.

Seeing the families, the couples, just various kinds of people. A news station covering the tree and the extravagant light up.

Kai looks over to see Mei slightly shivering, without waiting for response of permission; he takes off his scarf and wraps it around her.

Mei is surprised but accepts the gesture anyway.

"Thank you..." Mei says as she averts her gaze, pulling the scarf to hopefully hide the red tint that has crawled onto her cheeks.

Kai smiles

"You're welcome" He replies as he pats her head softly

Looking up he notices a little accenting thing hanging over them... He easily identifies this as Mistletoe.

Mei notices Kai looking up and she does the same to see what has him so intrigued... Looking up she spots the mistletoe.

As she lowers her head to speak to Kai, his figure is closer to hers as if in slow motion, he moved towards her... His lips gently landing on hers. It was a quick kiss, and Kai quickly moved back and hid his blushing face.

Looking over at an equally red and speechless Mei...

"S-Sorry it's tradition" He says

Mei's blush is not going anywhere, she nods and gently places her fingers on her lips.

"Don't worry it will be our secret" Kai says with a big smile

Mei finds his smile so infectious and she smiles back ever so slightly.

As they sit in their short moment of silence, Mei's mom has come back, walking over she greets Kai and they say their goodbyes. As they begin to go opposite ways.

"Mei...that's a nice scarf, did Kai-kun give it to you" Her mom innocently but knowingly asks

Mei blushes and hides her face behind the scarf as her mom laughs and they continue their evening plans...

Mei looks up once more towards the tree...

"The secret we shared on Christmas..." She mutters softly with a small smile.

Hey everyone, this was just a short little story. I really loved this manga and anime, honestly I ship Mei and Yamato, but I also ship Mei and Kai. It's so conflicting, but I hope you enjoyed this! Since it's almost time for christmas anyways thought I would post this.
