The wind blew heavily over Reyna’s blonde hair, swiping it away, she knelt before her mother’s grave. Her mother had died in car crash accident, leaving her alone.
“Am sorry for your loss”. A woman she had never met said.
Nodding her head, she walked passed her. She looked around, seeing strange faces around her.
Sympathizers, that’s what they truly were. When her mom was alive, she never once saw them, but now, she saw them all.
She had to leave, she had to go far away from them. Her mom never once deserved this. She was a good woman, she loved and protected her, but now she was gone.
She wiped the tears from her eyes, her mom last memories was painfully enough to think about.
She walked away from there, she had no idea where she was going, but she had to leave.
“Reyna”.
At the sound of her name, Reyna turned and took in the sight of a short blonde woman, who looked like she was in her early fifties.
Reyna did not recognize the woman but she didn’t also recognize half the people that came for her mother’s funeral.
Not having the time or energy to hear another fake ‘sorry’, she walked as fast as she could.
Surprising her, the woman caught up with her quickly.
“Please hear me out” the woman pleaded.
Stopping, she looked at the woman angrily. “Look lady, I don’t have the time or strength for this. I just want to go home, crawl under my bed, and cry my eyes out”.
Nodding the woman said. “I know, but I want to talk about your mother’s death”.
Her mother’s death, what is this woman going about, she wanted to walk away from her but something told her to just hear the woman out.
“Your mother’s death wasn’t caused by an accident, she was murdered”.
Confused at the woman’s statement, she asked. “Are you from the police, because this was investigated and was proven to be an accident?”
“No am not from the police. I worked with your mother”.
How can this woman claim to work with her mother when she had never seen her before? As far as she was concerned, this woman was crazy. Either that or she was one of those people who enjoyed seeing people in pain, because for sure, this was meant to hurt her.
Who comes to a person's funeral and tries to hurt them even more. Making up her mind, she began her walk again.
However, the woman was persistent and followed behind her. “I know this is a bad time to spring this on you but you’re in danger. The people who killed your mother are coming for you”.
Turning to her in anger, she lashed out. “Do you hear yourself? Whoever killed my mother is coming for me too? Okay let’s say you’re right, why would anybody kill my mother and why would they try to harm me?”
“Your mother was not just an ordinary woman. No, she was a witch, one of the best”.
At this, Reyna couldn’t help but laugh. “Let me guess, if my mother’s a witch, that makes me one too. Very funny miss. Can’t you find someone else to prank, maybe someone who didn’t just lose a parent”.
The lady just shook her head. “Am not trying to prank you sweetie, this is just the truth. I don’t have time to talk about this right now but if you can meet me tomorrow at the wood shop down the road, we could talk about this over coffee”.
Reyna could not believe this woman. Why would this woman think she would want to meet her? Maybe the woman thought her curiosity for her mother’s death would push her to. Maybe, she had no idea yet.
“Why would I want to meet you? For all I know you could be a crazy killer?”
“Am not, and I think you really want to hear what I have to say about your mother”.
Maybe she was right and she would be there but she couldn’t think of these right now. Today she mourns her mother and tomorrow she makes her decision.
So she said to the woman. “I don’t know yet. Guess you will know my answer tomorrow, if I show up”.
With that, Reyna turned her back on the woman and left her standing there. She reached her small home down the street.
Opening the door, she got in and locked it, dropping the keys on the counter, she yelled out her roommate. “Am back”.
“Hey, how was it? Again am really sorry I couldn’t make it”. Her roommate Maggie said to her.
Maggie was her oldest friend. They have being friends since high school. She was there for her when she got the call about her mother’s accident.
Maggie stayed in the hospital with her, holding her when she cried. She was like a sister, the closest family she had after my mum.
She couldn’t make it today, because she had work. She tried to get permission to leave early but her boss was an ass, but Reyna understood, she really was a savior.
“For the hundredth time, it’s fine. The strangest thing happened to me today”. Reyna said before sitting on the sofa.
“What, did you meet the man of your dreams?” Maggie joked and sat with her.
“No, but a lady walked up to me and told me my mother’s death was not an accident. That she was murdered”.
“Oh my god Reyna, this is serious. Why would she tell you this? Why not the cops?”
Her question was interesting, and Reyna wondered why she never thought to ask the woman.
Maggie brushed her raven hair from her face and asked. “Do you think she was lying, maybe trying to pull your legs? Though I don’t know why someone would joke about that”.
“She asked for us to meet. She said she wants to tell me more about what happened to my mother”.
“Do you want to go Rey?”
Nodding Reyna said. “Yeah, I want to hear what she has to say”.
“Okay, I’ll go with you. To make sure you’re safe”.
Reyna was just about to accept her offer, when she remembered the woman saying her mother was a witch. She didn’t believe the woman but for some reason she wanted to do this alone.
“No, you don’t have to. You have done more than enough for me. Am sure she’s just trying to mess with me, I can handle this”.
“Are you sure?” Maggie asked and Reyna nodded.
“Okay, but call me if you need anything”.
“Yeah I will”.
Maggie tapped Reyna and stood from the sofa, walking to the door, she said to her friend.
“Come on, let’s go eat out your sorrow”. Reyna laughed and joined her out the door.
