"Lauren, I'm really not sure if I should even be going out tonight."
"Oh come on D! It's Halloween. I know you don't really go for this holiday but it's so depressing having a good time and going out without you with me. Just this once can you please have some fun?"
"But what if-"
"If there's a blood moon out tonight, I'll make sure to be with you so we can bail as soon as possible before you turn okay? I just want you to get out more. You're literally letting your demons hold you back and it's kinda sad."
The Poly giggled as she shook her head at her best friend of seven years. It was true that Halloween wasn't her favorite time of year. And for good reason. Dinah was a devil. Literally. There's a saying that people have their own demons. In Dinah's case, the phrase was never figurative. And it was evident during the very late hours of the night at around two to three o'clock in the morning.
You see, Dinah's great grandmother was a wicken. A very powerful one at that. Her communication with dark spirits was so strong that she was granted permission to have one of them make refuge in a decedent of her bloodline. She knew that each generation of her family would be stronger than the last, so she strategically put an encantation onto Dinah when she was born. Already seeing the spirit manifest itself in her at the age of one, she died with a peaceful heart.
For the last twenty years of her life, the demon Dinah that possessed became stronger with every year that passed. Obviously, Halloween was the night she really thrived. Dinah never liked it because at times she couldn't control the actions she was possessed to carry out. But it was the blood moon where the Poly lost complete control.
She only went through that dreadful experience once in her life. And the result almost caused Lauren her life. Dinah never forgave herself for that incident, but Lauren had a weird obsession with dark and twisted things. So needless to say when she saw that side of Dinah, she was excited. She even went so far as to name the demon that lived inside her friend Lucy, short for Lucifer since she was a devil after all.
"I'm sure even Lucy would love to make a new friend tonight," the Cuban said with a sly smirk.
"You're crazy," Dinah snickered, picking out her costume for the Halloween party Lauren's boyfriend, Ty, was having. "Is Ally gonna be there?"
Lauren blushed a little at the name. Her and Ty had their eyes on the short Latina for a few months now. She was new in town, and in Lauren and Ty's eyes, she was very much a cutie. Dinah knew how much they crushed on her. She thought it was cute. And she often teased them for it.
"As a matter of fact she will," Lauren replied smugly, "and Normani's coming with her."
Now it was Dinah's turn to blush. Not too long after Ally moved into town, Normani moved from New Orleans, catching the eye of every male suitor who laid eyes on her. But word got around that she was more into women than men. Which, to Dinah, meant that she had somewhat of a chance with her. The only thing holding her back, of course, was good ol' Lucy.
"Looks like I'll have to look real good then," Dinah said shyly. "Minus well go all out since it's Halloween."
Lauren grinned in excitement. She already knew what she was gonna dress up as. So she spent the rest of the afternoon helping Dinah piece together her costume, adding stick out pieces for show.
《...that night...》
Lauren and Dinah were the first ones to arrive at Ty's house. Ty wanted Lauren to be apart of his big entrance, and she more than happily accepted. Dinah greeted Ty with a warm hug. After the three of them conversed, they got his giant house prepared for a night of spooks.
