The dead made me feel alive

Chapter.1

"We are low on food" There was a short silence before Danny turned to the crowd of hungry people. We all knew this was bad , very bad at that . Our base is in the middle of no where , it's miles upon miles to the closest store and way to dangerous. The crowd began to shout and throw things at Danny ,Danny didn't seem to notice as he walked up and down on the stage mumbling to himself. "We need someone to volunteer to go to Rosewood to gather supplies and bring them back " Half of the crowd was now gone . No one was going to go and Danny knew that .

"I'll go " Danny began to lecture me and talk me out of it. "We need food , I'm willing to risk it Danny . Danny come on I'm well able to go out for a few days I'll be fine ." He rubbed his temples before sighing .

"Ok. But Isaac is going with you ." My face dropped . He knows how much I hate Isaac . Isaac is Danny's best friend . He hates me and I hate him . It all happened when I started to date Danny . Six months after they found a useless and loss Hailey , things got romantic between me and Danny and we became a couple .

"Is there anyone else ?." Danny broke into a smile.

"No babe , he's the strongest out of the team plus I trust him with my life." He had a point , Isaac was a strong person physically and mentally. I sighed in defeat and nodded in agreement . Danny pulled me towards him and into a hug but a cough from behind us made us pull apart.

"You poor man." Ah Isaac himself . Danny pulled away and did one of those bro handshakes with him.

"Your going with Hailey to gather supplies we are running short." He snorted and gave me a dirty look before turning back to Danny . Danny doesn't really care what Isaac says or does at this point .

"Fun but if she doesn't come back with me the zombies got her ." Danny laughed and looked towards me but my stern look shut him up .

"Bullets check , knives check, food check , water check  we are ok to go ." Putting the last can of beans in my bag I looked up to see Isaac . "Do you the map ?." He reached into his bag and pulled out what looked like a piece of paper . Ah the map ." And the car ?." He pointed out the window to the old BMW .

"Dan said there's enough petrol in it to get us back ." And with that he walked out the door. I grabbed the handgun and placed it inside my sachet . I took one more look around and followed him outside . Looking around , I spotted him whispering something to Danny . The both of them snapped there heads up once the heard me approaching . Danny patted Isaac on the shoulder then turned to me .

"Bd careful out there." Was the last thing he said before we exchanged our goodbyes ."And Isaac remember what I said ." Isaac rolled his eyes and opened the car door I followed his actions and drove away in silence . I looked at the base once more before turning my eyes on the road in front of us . Although it wasn't going to be the last time I see it it felt like it was .

" We should make it to Rosewood In roughly two days depending on the direction the herd is heading ." I hummed in agreement ." You should get some sleep we've a long road ahead of us ." I wasn't going to argue with that so I found myself drifting off .

"Fuck" I jolted awake due to a loud bang . I looked beside me to see if Isaac heard it to me , but to my luck he wasn't here . I looked around once more slightly begging to panic , until my eyes met Isaacs  figure leaning against the car bonnet .

"What happened ?." He turned towards me and sighed .

"One of those fucking bastards was standing in the middle of the road and I swerved
it but still hit it and now the car won't drive for some reason . It's nearly sunset we need to get to safety I can't chance staying in that car overnight . I saw a house back a few miles we can clear it out and crash there for the night and head out first thing tomorrow morning ." I began to gather the bags from the back and hog out of the car . We began to walk towards the direction of the house in silence may I add . It was odd having Isaacs idiotic comments or insults but it was nice . He's always been very stubborn well, since I met him . Dan didn't say much to be about Isaacs life before he found him only that he had it hard , I mean didn't we all ?. We continued to walk in silence , shoulder to shoulder until he broke the ice . "I uh need to tell-." He didn't get to finish the sentence as the sound of thunder and rain began to fall . We both sprinted to the house and by the time we reached it we where as dead as the zombies , well I was Isaac was standing there enjoying see me struggle .

After we had reached the house Isaac and I cleared it out . There wasn't much zombies just three , I think they where a family . We where currently sitting in front of the fire eating s can of beans , surprise surprise in silence . The only noise coming from us was out breathing and chewing . The beans where shit dryer than a desert and it made me realize how much I missed ketchup ." Do you ever miss ketchup?." I couldn't help it I just blurted it out . I was expecting Isaac to tut or insult my question but instead and to my suprised he cracked a smile . A really nice and big smile .

"Do I miss ketchup ?." He bursted our laughing and stood up while placing the can on the table . "Off course I do ."

"I like your smile ." The once happy expression drained from his face and was replaced with his signature frown . He grabbed the blanket that he had managed to find and headed down the hallway , in to the bedroom I guessed and shit the door leaving me in complete shock .

Hey guys as you can probably tell this book is the better and much improved book I write a while ago . I wasn't happy with the other book so I wanted to start fresh . I hope you guys enjoyed the first chapter 😘
