Mahiru walked through the streets at a leisurely pace. Besides the moon, which was shining half full, the sky above her was pitch-black and no stars could be seen which was because of the lights of the city.
The street Mahiru was walking at though was small and dark. A cold wind blew and the young girl's long ashen hair flew around. It was very cold but Mahiru did not freeze at all despite her wearing just a light school uniform. The only thing she felt was hunger. Her throat hurt and she slowly started to feel dizzy.
Finally Mahiru smelled human blood nearby. The girl remained calm as she changed her direction forwards the scent but her blood red eyes looked very excited. The closer she got the stronger she could smell it and eventually she could see two teenage girls walking hand in hand.
"Tch", Mahiru hissed and thought: "I would have prefered a man."
Nevertheless she followed them silently without them noticing.Mahiru thought about a strategy how to catch both of them without making too much noise. The main street was nearby and Mahiru did not want to attract more people. Not that they could stop her. It would be so easy to kill them as well. But what she feared was that vampire hunters could get to know about her.
"Dia Onee-chan!", suddenly one of the girls cryed out with a very childish voice. She was smaller than the other and her red pigtails waved around as she walked. Both her arms were clinging to the arm of the older girl. Her hair was long and brown and her voice was dark but feminine and calming: "What is it, Ruby?"
Ruby moaned: "How far until we finally reach home? Its so cold and dark."
"Are you afraid of the dark?", Dia giggled and said in a teasing but careing way: "You arent a child anymore. Stay strong. It's not that far anymore."
Ruby jumped and tried to be brave: "I am not afraid! It's just that this street is so empty..."Mahiru smiled sadly. The two girls walking in front reminded her of herself and Shinoa. They never really took a walk together but Mahiru always wished she would have had the opportunity to do so.
For a moment Mahiru was afraid her emotions would get in the way to kill those two. But since she had become a vampire her emotions became weaker each day. At this point she should not feel any regrets or sympathy.
