I yawned as I floated on my back in the water, everyone else around me fighting.
"Heads up!"
I sighed and twisted in the water, diving under then back up to find the fuzzy image of a ball where I had just been.
"Tell me why you don't fight again Nekonami-san?"
I looked up finding a semblance of the swim club president in front of me. I shrugged and swam to the edge of the pool and hopped out. As I turned around, I found the club president looking at me and gave her a blank stare as I slipped my glasses from the stool beside me onto my face, her features becoming clear along with the confused look on her face.
"I'm a pacifist."
The girl sweat dropped. "But you're the most-"
I glared at her causing the girl to shake her head with a frown. I didn't care and just walked away to class, my towel draped over my shoulder. I ruffled my long-ish hair a few times with it then dried myself off to put on my no star uniform, a normal sailor shirt but with pants instead of our normal school skirt. They were too short for my liking and I haven't been told that I couldn't anyway.
Welcome to my life at Honnouji Academy. I'm Shina Nekonami, an unoriginal no star first year in class K. I have no friends and my hobbies mostly bore people.
I sighed thinking about my unoriginality and pushed my glasses up. The only thing "original" about myself is I have a green ribbon that I use to tie up my hair when it gets too annoying for me to bare, but I only wear that at home. Speaking of which, it's time to go. My class had started and ended without me realizing it.
"See you again tomorrow everyone," Mikisugi sensei said as he wiped the white board.I gathered my things and poked the girl next to me, Mako Mankanshoku. She often slept during classes, and since we had the same classes with the exception of clubs I always woke her up.
She quickly lifted her head up and looked at me. "Oh? Nekonami-san!"
I gave her a blank stare and started out the door. It didn't take her long to gather her own things and catch up to me. I looked at her blankly as she smiled at me.
"Awe! Did you forget that we live across from each other again, Nekonami-san?" Mako asked, oblivious to my mood.
I shook my head and stared ahead as she talked to me, me never answering, but still tolerating her next to me. It was nice to have some company every now and then, even if I didn't exactly want nor ask for it.
"Ya know, you could always come over Nekonami-san!" She blathered as she pointed to her home, her mother waving to us through the window.
I turned towards the home and tilted my head. I had always wondered what it would be like to have a family since my parents just sent me off to schools of their choosing and left me all the time.
"No thank you. Good night Mankanshoku-san," I said as I turned and walked into my home.
I could hear her whine out but paid no mind as I put my bag in my living area. I grabbed a book and started to make myself some tea.
Knock knock knock.
"Leave me be."
Knock knock knock.
"Go away."
I grabbed the whistling pot and poured the water into my cup when I didn't hear anything else. Once I added a bit of sugar I grabbed my cup, my nose still in my book as I walked into my living room. A strange smell made its way to my nose causing me to stop walking.
Call me crazy, but it smelled like clothes, fresh laundered clothes. I haven't been able to do mine yet and I don't use whatever smell this was. I tilted my head to the side as I shifted my bookmark from my hand in between the book pages as I looked over my book. Finding a boy garbed in a white three-star jacket in my house, I closed the book and stared at him.
"You've a strange way of greeting, Nekonami-san," he greeted as he leaned against the wall, his hands in his pockets.
"You've a strange way of breaking into my house, Sanageyama-san," I shot back.
"Touche."
I didn't like the way he was smirking at me. I sighed and sat down on one of my comfier cushions. I threw one in his direction, it landing in front of him. His gaze shifted down then back to me as I took a sip of my tea, my book placed beside me.
"You're not leaving soon so sit," I muttered as I took another sip.
He gave no response but knelt down on the pillow anyway. For a few minutes we stared at each other, no noise heard other than me sipping my tea.
"No tea for the guest?"
I raised my eyebrow at the sudden sassy tone his voice held.
"No person is a guest in my house unless I deem them one. You broke in so get your own tea if you want some." At my statement he laughed, my brow raising yet again.
"You've no fear, huh?" he asked.
"What is it you are here for?" I asked as I lowered my tea. I was tired of this already.
His smirk dropped and this time he tilted his head.
"Your parents have been requested to come up to the Academy."
I sat up straight and frowned hearing this. Immediately he followed suit and straightened up knowing that something was up. I looked down and my fingers gripped my cup more tightly.
"I live alone. It's just me here."
I didn't have to see him to know that he got up. His jacket gave off enough noise for me to figure it out.
"I will notify Satsuki-sama then. Thank you for your time."
He then started out of my house. Before he could leave, I chucked my empty cup at him. I frowned even more as he just barely caught it before it hit his head.
"Don't come inside without permission again please," I glared then looked to my tea pot where he set the cup down.
"I'll be sure to do so," he murmured.
I didn't care and just turned back around. Thinking about it just made me annoyed anyway. It just wasn't worth it dwelling on them and their decisions. I sat there for a while just staring at the wall until my stomach growled. I knew I didn't have much in my house, and that included food. I didn't eat much, but then again, I hadn't eaten all day.
It was then I heard a knock on my door. I never got visitors, especially late at night like it was. By the sound of the knocks, they weren't going away so I finally pulled myself up and walked to my door. I blinked once it opened finding food being shoved in my face.
"I'm Sukuyo! Here you go Nekonami-chan!"
Mako and her mother pushed their way into my kitchen and pulled my table out to set everything down including rice, weird croquettes, and weird...soup?
"What...is this?" I asked as I stared at everything they were putting on my table.
"Mako and I have noticed that you don't have anyone with you so we thought it would be nice to give you a good home cooked meal!" Sukuyo explained. "These are my specially made croquettes and miso soup!"
I stared at Mako and her mother, questions going through my head. "Why?"
Mako hummed and looked at her mother in surprise. "Because you're my friend of course!"
