I don’t know what I was thinking. Even though Jacque probably ditched me, I felt like I was ditching her myself because I basically just decided to dance with some random boy I met for 2 seconds.

We went to the middle of the dance floor and as of this was all set up, the DJ decided to quit playing the fast ‘Where Have You Been’ Rihanna mix and start playing some old slow song that my parents probably knew.

“Well that’s just wonderful.” I mumbled and tugged at my mask a bit to fix it.

The boy, [I still didn’t even bother to ask his name and his mask basically hid his whole identity] looked down at me a bit and gave me a weird look through his mask. “What?”

I sighed and looked over at the DJ and back at him. “Well I am a horrible dancer in general. Even with fast upbeat songs. But now that a slow song is playing, I am literally horrifying if I attempt to move my legs in a way.”

The boy held back a chuckle and grabbed my hand. “I could teach you.”

“Yeah, good luck with that. I’m literally like Rebecca Black, but in a dancing version.”

His hazel eyes glinted under the few lights in the gym and he laughed again as he placed his hands on my hip. I was a little taken back by his sudden action, but then quickly let it go. He bent down until his mouth was only inches away from my ear. “Just follow me.” He whispered.

The music continued to play, and it honestly sounded like it couldn’t get any slower. The boy moved his feet gracefully and at ease, as if it wasn’t the first time he did something like this. I tried to follow his steps and somewhat dance in sync with him. And to be quite honest, it wasn’t too horrible. I was pretty decent.

As the song ended, I pulled away from the boy and shot him a small smile. “Umm thanks for the dance. Sorry if I was terrible, but I did warn you.”

“Hey, no problem at all. You actually weren’t so bad. It was a pleasure dancing with you.” He smiled.

A smile also tugged at my lips and I looked into his hazel eyes. “Well thanks again,….?” I said, still not knowing his name.

“Oh uhh my name is Ju-“
“KAT! THERE YOU ARE!” I heard a voice behind me say. I turned around to see my friend Jacque, softly panting as she approached me. The dark feathers hanging on her mask looked like they were finally dying and giving up since they were practically trying to get off of the mask. I chuckled softly. “Oh hey, nice to see ya friend.”

Jacque shook her head and rolled her eyes. “Where the heck were you? I just went to go and try to find my brother because he told me he was coming tonight. I came back to where you were standing before and you were gone.”

“Well yeah, you could have told me where you were going before you actually left! I thought you ditched me.” I replied innocently.

Jacque opened her mouth to say something but her eyes well over my shoulder. She stopped and nodded towards to the boy with a small grin. “Oh well you gonna introduce me or what?”

“Huh?” I asked confused. I finally turned around and realized what she was talking about. “Oh yeah, umm well he actually still has to introduce himself to me.”

The boy was about to properly introduce himself when a loud shriek was heard from the crowd on the dance floor. Jacque and I immediately turned to see who it was, only to realize it was Fefe Hayes. The most popular-and most definitely most annoying and snobby-girl in school.

I rolled my eyes and leaned over to Jacque. “Bet she’s freaking out over breaking a nail or something.” I whispered.

“Watch her call up 911 for some dumb situation she’s in.” Jacque joked. I laughed and watched Fefe walk up to the boy. She wasted no time in grabbing his mask from both sides and ripping it off his face. “IT’S JUSTIN BIEBER!”
