I waited outside of the boys bathroom for my little brother Zeus, who is 7 years old. I sifted through my pockets and backpack to see if I had everything.
"Colored pencils? Check! Notebook? Check! Books for Zeus and I? Check! Phone? Check! Money? Check! Headphones? Che-," I all of a sudden get cut off by a loud screech, which without looking up from my things I know is my brother. He always makes that sound when he's nervous, but also very excited.
"Zeus Hendrix Sivini!" Yells my mother from a Starbucks line; where she is waiting with my Aunt Silvia. They're about 10 feet from the restrooms where Zeus exits from.
"Yup that's me! The kid with the loud family," I say to myself while looking tired and a bit embarrassed.
"But mom, I'm just excited to see Aires." He says lying intimidatingly while swaying with his hands behind his back looking like a sneaky child, which he is of course.
"No. You're excited because this is the first time you get to ride a plane," I truthfully say, and after, Zeus opens his mouth wide and punches me in the arm like I just told a humongous secret.
"You seriously want me to punch you back? I'll do it and it won't be as weak as you did it," I say playfully while putting my fists up. I can see in the corner of my eye, my mom and aunt just start talking about life and how the trips going to plan out. They act as if they don't know us, like we're going to embarrass them or something.
"Must run in the family," dad always says for basically whatever they do alike or together.
I lean over to Zeus whispering in his ear mischievously, "Hey you wanna make Momma and Aunt Silvia...embarrassed?" I question while raising my one eyebrow and having a devilish smile on my face, and then it leaps onto Zeus's.
"Yes! Oh yes!" He says raising his voice in a excited way.
"Ok then follow my lead," I insist while stepping back and keeping my fists up with a smile while Zeus does the same.
Plan A: 'Confrontation!'
"Ok boy! Let's fight right here right now!" I shout.
"Ok come and get me!" Yells my brother dropping all his things in the floor as I do the same, which catches a lot of people's attention, but sadly not my moms or aunts. Not working so...
Plan B: 'Attack!' (The best one yet!)
"You asked for it!" I exclaim. I charge toward him, lift him up, and slam him on the ground (but not that hard so it won't actually hurt him.) My brother then starts to punch me while we both try to hold in a boatload of laughter. My mom and aunt finally notice, but all they do is look roll their eyes and continue talking. Me and Zeus both look at each other with a sly smile and know exactly what plan or shall I say plans to do next...
Plan C: 'Attention Grabber!' and Plan E: 'Total Destruction!' our favorite combination.
I jump up and start running around the airport waiting room yelling out, "You can't catch me!" Zeus jumps up and starts running towards me twice as fast. He reaches towards me while I skid the other way running into a suitcase.
I knock it over, keep on running, and yell "SORRY!" With a snickering smile on my face. Finally our mom and aunt notice that we're being both rude and disruptive in the public eye.
"KIDS!!!" She yells wildly with her wide eyes. Zeus and I both stop in our tracks, walk towards them, and each other slowly and cautiously. We both look at each other and secretly smile when and where only we can see.
"Sorry Ms, but we don't know you..." I murmur with a shy tone now holding my brother right beside me.
"Quit the act," my Aunt says, although we can tell by her face that she is quite amused.
"We're not acting," says my brother shyly while getting closer toward me.
"Layla Lynn Savini! You stop this act right now! You're 10 years old!" Yelled my mother harshly at me.
Still acting, but about to crack up; I respond with a, "Actually I'm 8 years old ma'am" I say trying to maneuver her own trick she was trying to prove.
"Then act like it!- I mean- ohh you tricked me missy!" She said scoldingly while pointing at me. Zeus and I could barely hold it in any longer, and spat out laughter. My mother just starts to growl at us how I'm 14 and supposed to be a good example and blah blah blah. Zeus and I just nod and say yes when appropriate. We are actually just looking over at our aunt, who is starting to order her coffee and act like everything's normal. She's probably, once again, trying to act like we don't exist.
• • • •As Zeus and I try to count how many planes are outside coming in and out, our mother calls us toward her so we could FaceTime our brother. Once my mom gets the call to work after many tries, we finally get to see our brother Aires. "Hi honey! We're so happy to come and see you!" Excitedly states my mom.
"Hey, Air! Guess what me and Zeus did about an hour ago!" I eagerly said while exchanging sneaky looks between Zeus and Aires.
"Okay well for one: Mom I'm super ecstatic that you guys are coming and that I get to see you all and....
Two: it's pronounced Zeus and I, not me and Zeus," states Aires more profoundly than I've ever heard him, more or less he almost snatched an English accent.
"And three, who made you the king of freaking, well London?!" I examined a little more harshly then expected.
"Well someone needs to teach you the proper ways of speech."
"You know what? Just because you went to the University of Oxford doesn't mean you know everything."
"Maybe not, but it does mean that I know more than you!" Chuckles Aires with a wild grin on his face.
"Oh no sh-" I start to exaggerate while pulling my eyes.
"Okayyyy! This was a great chat but I believe you were going to tell your sweet brother that you love so much about what happened," interrupts my mom who tries to smooth everything out.
After a brief moment of silence, I frustratingly explain to my brother that Zeus and I were a disruption in the eyes of the public; how my mother would've liked for me to say it.**Authors note:
I know this isn't that good mostly because it's my first book, but hopefully you all like it and even if you don't I'm still going to publish because I'm basically doing this for me. If you do, I don't know when I'll be able to publish another chapter but whenever I have time because I'm really busy at this moment in my life, so it'll probably be at random times but hopefully at least once a week. Comment on what you maybe like about it so far or dislike and I think it'll either get more interesting in the next chapter or the 3rd. I'm not so sure...
