Chapter 28
Isla could feel her anger simmering and knew that she had to get it under control before she said or did something she would regret. Shaking her hands out at her sides, fingers spread, as if trying to throw all the emotion aside. How dare he ruin such a moment for her? How dare he try and think for her? She had a mind capable of choosing her own thoughts and feelings about a given situation and he was going to get it through his thick skull before...
Deep breaths. Shaking her head slowly, she tried to slow her thoughts, force mind to slow by forcing her breathing to calm. It had always worked in the past, but this time it was a little harder than before. As if this meant more than anything else that had caused her anger before. Squeezing her eyes shut, she stopped walking for a moment, counting in...and out. Jumping only slightly at the gentle hand which landed upon her arm.
"Do I need to ask?" there was no judgement in her head tone, but it still rubbed against her the wrong way. If it was not for Gilbarta they may not have managed to complete all the tasks to save a life and be here right now. Isla looked over at her friend and there was a moment that passed between them. "I don't think I need to ask anything."
"It's not something I wish to talk about right now." There was a tense pause between the two as the rest caught up with them. A flash went through Gilbarta's eyes before nodding sharply and turning on Moira.
"for the love of the Lord above, Moira. If you like him just say so, I can not take the incessant noise anymore." That pulled Moira up short.
Carrick snorted a laugh, to which he looked highly embarrassed before he mumbled. "Com, I think you ought to say the same." He ducked his head a moment, before peaking up at her. She would like to think that she saw true remorse in his eyes. The problem was, is that remorse for his actions or for the words he gave her later.
Tearing her eyes from his she brought them to the other pair. Moira and Com were staring daggers at each other. Yet the hatred on their faces did not match the way their bodies angled towards each other. She would not have looked if not for the comments made. Yet it was now obvious to everyone but the two themselves what was going on.
"Well you called us here, despite the danger," the latter added in a rather derisive tone, but she refused to look at Carrick in that moment. She looked towards Com instead. "Shall we get this over with then? Your welcome, I hope your man is well. And we will make sure that we don't speak of it again as that means we may be cast out of our own clan." Gilbarta gave her a quizzical look out of the corner of her eye. She felt almost desperate when four sets of eyes just continued to stare at her in silence. "Well?" Instead of sounding confident, it instead came out a little too high pitched to be casual.
Com looked a little out of his depth as he turned to his brother. Unable to comprehend exactly what was going on with this woman. Was this some sort of test to see if he could handle or understand women after being away from them for so long? Whatever the reason he knew that it was not going to end well for him no matter what tact he took right now. It would be better to leave this to his usually silent brother. But in this case he seems to have been the one to create the problem in the first place. "Well Carrick? What say you?" Even as he tried to back the frustrating woman up, she sent a threatening glare his way. So much so that he almost took a step back in order to miss the scrutiny of his soul he could almost feel boreing into him, as he looked anywhere but at her.
Moira in turn also set her hot gaze upon him. But he was now incredibly confused by his own emotions towards her and did not know if she looked upon him with anger or want. As his head spun with these thoughts he could feel a build up of pressure behind his eyes. This was why he had stayed away from women for so long. No one could understand the creatures.
