Sylvie:
No matter what I tried, I couldn't get Johnny Ledoux out of my head. It's been three days since I've seen him, since I've spoken to him. "Sylvie, where's your mind 'tite fille?" Mama asked me with a sigh as I tripped over thin air. "I'm sorry Mama, I just.. I guess I'm lost in my thoughts." I shrugged. "Is it a boy? You know that you don't have time for boys. Nothing good will come." She said in her heavily accented voice. I nodded silently. No matter that I was grown, Mama still saw me as her little girl, her 'tite fille. "Hey Ma, I think I'm going to give cousin Adeline a visit." I told her before kissing her cheek and heading out. She waved me off with a nod as she tuned into her favorite soap opera.
Walking down St. Peter, I was a bundle of nerves. Something had to give, this wasn't normal. Shaking my head at my musings, I pushed open the door to Madame Bellatrix's, and walked in. "Welcome to Madame- Well I'll be! Sylvie Breaux get your behind over here!" Jenna squealed and pulled me into a hug. "Hey Jenna, it's good to see you too." I chuckled. "You can only deny who you are for so long before you have to come home, Sylvie. Your dad-" I cut her off before she could delve down that path. "Hey so is Adeline in? I kinda wanted to talk to her about something." I smiled, hoping it reached my eyes. "Fine, Fine. I won't push. For now. Addie's in the back. You know the way." She nodded towards the back of the shop. I ducked my head and hurried to the back. Adeline LeRoux is my first cousin. The Breaux's and the LeRoux's go back as far as the city itself. My father was a warlock, a male born with the witch gene. When he met my mother, he fell for her, and she finally convinced him to leave his family behind. His craft. No Magique. No spells. No potions. I knew that witch's blood ran through my veins, but my entire life, my mother forbid me to practice. The older I got, the harder it was to pretend I was normal though. "Addie?" I called out to my cousin. "Sylvie? What brings you here?" She grinned and pulled me into a hug. "I've got troubles. Of the male variety." I sighed. She snorted and flipped her raven hair over her shoulder. "Spill it." She raised an eyebrow at me.
An hour later, Addie shook her head at me with a rueful smile. "The LeDoux's aren't a bad pack, and you could do much worse than Johnny. Just think, you could have Jean-Luc Devereaux sniffing after your tail." She practically snarled his name. Known as a king of New Orleans, or so he thought himself, the vampire had had his eye on my cousin for years. "Suceur de sang.." she hissed. "What do I do? Isn't there a potion that could clear him out of my system?" I asked almost desperately. "Sylvie, if it's the mating call that's got hold of you, there's no breaking that bond. Even the most powerful Magique can't stop that. If it's been fated, then so it shall be." Adeline said with a sad smile. "Sylvie, I know your Mama never approved, and I'm not speaking ill of her. But-" I held a hand up. "I can't Addy. I can't do that to her. Mama always said that she lost Dad to Magique, I'm all she has left." I said sadly. My chest aches saying it. But I'd keep saying it, until I believed it myself. "I guess I'll just be avoiding Johnny Ledoux for the rest of my life." I sighed and hugged my cousin before leaving.
